Seems to me the ability to write characters like Apone, Hicks, Hudson, Vasquez, Gorman, Drake...are dead. RIP

Young writers are so infused with the zeitgeist of the times it is no surprise to see the lead being a girl with boyish haircut, placing a variant of a samurai sword on her back confidently proclaiming, "We're fast. We're strong. We don't break."

An Alien series with a female lead is "a zeitgeist of the times"?

Thank you. It's a brief, dissenting opinion, which don't fly too well here, but without going down the dreaded F16 road I wanted to comment.

I'm 52 this year and there have been two movies which are flashbulb memories for me. My very first movie in a theater - Star Wars.

And opening night for Aliens when I was 13.

Which has remained my favorite movie ever since, and every iteration thereafter has been disappointingly unable to come close to recapturing the essence of the first two.

Very hopeful for this series. Looks like they have a good handle on the atmosphere of both the Alien and Prometheus movies, and less of AvP.

This looks incredible.

What a cool idea for the lead, too.

This feels so much like Alien, yet damn near everything about it also feels fresh and new.

Cannot wait.

Noah Hawley isn't a "young writer." He's 58. Older than you.

While the "We're fast. We're strong. We don't break." bit is obviously referring to her synthetic nature. It's not a female empowerment anthem.

Super interesting aesthetic here too which is key considering how important design was to the early films. They've nailed the industrial look of the ships and tech while making the world around it look much more evolved and technological.

Excited for this one.

I don't think most mind dissenting opinions as long as there's some substance to them. Too many, particularly on this board, are absolutely the drive by type with no actual desire to discuss anything.

I am 43 and feeling nostalgic for you. That must have been amazing. Just re-watched this the other night for the first time in years. I can see why some people rank #1 over #2, but #2 just has the better combination of action and suspense to me. Plus more of an 80's action-movie feel with the characters.

But honestly, sometimes it's just someone giving a sincere opinion and that someone may just see things differently than some others on here. But all too often, this seems to genuinely offend a few people on here.

To be fair I'm referring to a very specific subset of posters that routinely post comments with a very similar theme (and generally show no desire to engage in discussion around the actual show/movie).

I was 14 when Alien came out and somehow my 13 year old friend and I convinced our parents to let us go see it. My dad took us. I still vividly remember the the birth scene as it was on the big screen in that theater. The other scene I still vividly remember as it was on the big screen is the opening scene from Star Wars that I had seen 2 years before.

I'm big on continuity. Curious how this leads into the movie franchise. Seems kinda like there's a big hole to fill on a space ship crashing into earth two years before the nostromo events on lv 426 and it not being a noteworthy thing in the movie. Retcons incoming.

Yep, maybe they prove me wrong, but this seems like a train wreck coming for plotholes.

While I agree about a potential plot hole, I am thinking that given that only Ash had any knowledge of the alien, I doubt the rest of the crew would ever have known of anything. And maybe the events of this show spurs WY to put the Nostromo crew on its mission.

My favorite franchise of all time. My father took me to the movies when I was 6 for the alien 3 (yeah yeah I know) release. Come to think of it, might explain why I still sprint to the bed after turning off the light switch.

Thanks dad.

Alien cubed is why I still -

say, "We don't want ripples in the water."
Perk up at the mention of cholera
And at the mention of the number 85

I guess we'll see this fall, but that kind of paints them in a corner with what they can do with the show. The different xeno species look like they affect a lot of people, so how are they gonna keep that under wraps?

Yeah, this is the danger that prequels present. You want to tell a particular story - in this case aliens on earth - but this opens up the potential for inconsistencies since they opted to set it in a time period prior to the original movie. They did a good job with Prometheus and Alien Covenant, as did Alien Romulus. But Alien Earth does raise questions that they could have avoided by simply setting it in a time frame like Romulus or later.

As for keeping the events of Alien Earth hidden, if we look at how powerful business conglomerates have become in this future, I wager they would be able to keep this quiet.
