No disrespect to any of y'all at NASA, but what are they doing these days? Space shuttle is gone and we're not commuting to/from the moon. Satellites and telescopes?

ETA - thought that the mission priority of "muslim outreach" was over with the obama administration, but please correct me if I'm wrong about that...

I'm more curious as to exactly how NASA has 2000 senior staff.

My sister worked as an engineer at NASA for several years. According to her, it is just another wasteful, overstaffed, DEI-ridden dumpster fire that needs to be purged. I think space exploration is important, but not as important as making the American government serve its people again and do so in a fair and efficient manner. Gut it.

While the gov't works at the speed of pond scum, I don't think this entire thread has documented 'nothing is happening.' That's an odd take. Even fixing and holding accountable small pieces, like those in the secret service who were responsible for the failures at Butler, PA, has taken almost a year.

CFPB, USAID, USIP, Voice of America, and many others…gone. 2,000 Nasa senior folks upset about climate change projects…just said a dios. Lot's of DoJ attorneys from key swamp sectors including civil rights enforcement…gone. FBI has had an enormous amount of folks vaporized because they didn't want to leave the DC perfumed prince palace. DHS and State, huge changes which has led to, believe it or not, even property value shifts in northern Virginia, with more to come. Transportation and EPA have made enormous policy/org. changes, with attendant staff departures.

And they just got permission finally via scotus to actually do major re-organizations/reductions…yesterday.

There's more to do, but 'Rome wasn't conquered in a day.'

It's impossible to fire bureaucrats like that. Bloated government. This can't be a bad thing.

Karen Bass, Vice Chair of NED, Mayor of LA, Castro supporter, communist, domestic terrorist.

Communist Coalition for Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment. Oh the irony of her support for policies expanding substance abuse as an elected official.

Note, while an active terrorist, she was a doctor's assistant.

Mike Mullane' memoir of being in the first class of shuttle astronauts in 1979 makes it very clear that the NASA Administrator and much of the senior administration has been nothing but bureaucrats since the end of the Apollo program. Mullane recounts the fear that gripped the astronauts when the Challenger investigation was completed and George Abbey (chief of astronauts during much of the ahuttle program) had not been fired. He said that the realization dawned on him that nobody in the Reagan administration was really sure who had the authority to fire Abbey.

NASA administrators rested on the laurels of those who put Americans on the moon and created what Richard Feynman referred to in the report to Congress on the Challenger disaster as a "normalization of deviance." That description is apt on many levels.

As for former NASA Administrator Charles Bolden and his infamous quote about NASA outreach to the Muslims of the world, he went to NASA in 1980 as a Major and spent 14 years as an astronaut before returning to the Marine Corps. I only met him (as a member of the audience) once in 2003 when he was a MajGen shortly after he relinquished command of 3rd MAW when he came to speak to the students at Naval Postgraduate School at a guest lecture. The only thing I recall from his speech was that he complained (to the students in the audience!) that he had been offered command of II MEF but he really wanted to command I MEF so he was just going to retire.

The sense of entitlement was so surprising that I recall it over 20 years later. It's pretty audacious to complain that he didn't get the premier assignment to command I MEF when he had taken a 14 year detour at NASA and he was passed over in favor of James Conway who led I MEF in the initial invasion of Iraq and the lightning-quick advance to Baghdad and went on to become Commandant of the Marine Corps.

I am extremely grateful that Charlie Bolden never commanded I MEF and used that as a launching pad to become Commandant. If he had only known that the junior senator from Illinois would declare his intention to run for President in 2006, I have no doubt that Bolden would have hung on by his fingernails to be nominated to be the Commandant after Gen Hagee retired. There aren't many reasons to be thankful that Donald Rumsfeld was SecDef in the first four years of Bush 43 but the fact that Bolden advanced no farther than MajGen is one of them.

I wasn't saying that as a negative or positive.

Two of them have left NASA Ames and are at SkyGrid.

The third just decided he was going to take the buyout. He's old like me so he's got a decision on just retiring or getting a few more years in since he's a SME in the UAS/UAM/AAM field.

I will say that this will impact some of the necessary research that has to feed into the regulators (FAA) though...

maybe PBS and NPR aren't' more fake than CNN or MSDNC, but what makes them "worse" is we the taxpayers pay for them, and probably more than half of taxpayers aren't interested in big government and dnc-controlled/influenced fake news (aka propaganda).

For God's sake Republicans, do what your voters want. Draft the legislation, pass it and let Trump sign it. This is not difficult.

I wonder what Russia would give us for Alaska these days? Or maybe we trade Canada Alaska in return for Alberta?

Senators from AK, SD, and ME. Clearest example of the downside of equal representation not being population-based that one could find today. But not having the government run by CA and MI is probably worth it.

Wonder what they're asking for the privilege of their vote? TDS is just the cover for whatever bribe they're really looking for.
