"Bloc of Socialists and Communists." Perfect, that's who our government overlords wanted to fund.Quote:
The opposition is demanding hearings in the Parliament with the Director of the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) and the General Prosecutor to clarify the use of these funds. This request was made following accusations from U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed that $32 million provided by the United States was misused in support of left-wing political forces in Moldova. In response, the ruling party reminded the opposition that they too had benefited from U.S. funding during their time in power.
The parliamentary session began today with heated exchanges between deputies from the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) and the Bloc of Socialists and Communists (BCS). Specifically, Communist deputy Diana Caraman noted that Moldova was being cited for the third time as an example of the "absurd" use of U.S. funds and taxpayer money. To clarify how these funds were spent, Caraman requested hearings with SIS Director Alexandru Musteaa and General Prosecutor Ion Munteanu.
"We in the opposition have repeatedly criticized the methods of using financial assistance and the purposes for which this money is directed," said Caraman. "But when the U.S. president speaks about absurd spending on propaganda in Moldova, which contradicts both U.S. and Moldovan legislation, we call for SIS Director Musteaa and the General Prosecutor to be heard in Parliament to clarify where this money went, how it was spent, and who appropriated it."

"The United States African Development Foundation (USADF) offices were entered today by Mr. Peter Marocco and others who we do not believe are authorized to represent the agency. USADF is fully complying with its statutory obligations. We will follow the law with the expectation that our staff will be treated with dignity and respect," the aid organization said in a statement to The Post.
A federal judge imposed a pause Thursday evening barring the Trump administration, Marocco and DOGE employees from removing USADF President and CEO Ward Brehm.
U.S. District Judge Richard J. Leon issued an administrative stay until 5 p.m. Tuesday to allow the court to deliberate on the lawsuit "given the significant statutory and constitutional issues involved."
The order also stated that during this time, Brehm may not be removed from his capacity as president of the agency "absent a decision by the lawfully-constituted Board of USADF" or obstructed from his duties, and that defendants may not appoint Marocco or recognize any other person as president or as an acting board member without Senate confirmation.
In a statement to The Post, a White House official tied the nature of the DOGE visit to an executive order issued Feb. 19 from Trump eliminating "unnecessary government entities" and reducing their operations and personnel "to the minimum presence and function required by law."
"President Trump signed an executive order to reduce the federal bureaucracy, which reduced the USADF to its statutory minimum, and appointed Peter Marocco as acting Chairman of the Board. Entitled, rogue bureaucrats have no authority to defy executive orders by the President of the United States or physically bar his representatives from entering the agencies they run," White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said.
A USADF official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to prevent professional retribution, told The Post in response to the White House statement: "Clearly, this White House spokesperson doesn't know who Ward Brehm is. He's hardly an entitled bureaucrat, having never worked for the government before he took this assignment. Ward is a well-known, conservative Republican businessman from Minnesota who has volunteered as a board member for USADF for over 20 years."

Officials at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) as well as their grantees could potentially face criminal charges for foreign aid fraud after the agency's deputy administrator-designate found that the abuse of taxpayer funds was far worse than first reported, according to several news outlets.
During a confidential briefing Wednesday before the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Acting USAID Chief Pete Marocco, a Trump appointee, reportedly told Congress he is considering criminal referrals regarding fraudulent spending activities within the U.S. international aid agency.
"Apparently, there's still judicial action that has even come out as late as this morning," committee member Rep. Keith Self (R-TX), who was in the closed-door meeting, told The Daily Mail in an interview.
"They intend to refer USAID officials to DOJ," the congressman shared, noting how fraud is "a criminal act."
