Canyon Lake Agbu94

Yes. I agree. Opening the dam isn't a concern and didn't mean to imply that it was. We are fortunate that the lake was at 46% prior to this as it could have been much worse if it was already full.

Great news (re canyon lake). My family there in new braunfels was told there was a mandatory evacuation in part due to releasing from the dam, but glad to hear that's not the case.

Canyon Lake was about 46% full yesterday. For reference, if inflows are at 100,000cfs, it would take 24 hours to reach 100% capacity. Looks like flows at Spring Branch peaked around 40,000cfs. So unlikely to fill Canyon Lake with this rainfall event. That is good because there is rainfall downstream. Impounding all of this water will alleviate the downstream flooding from that rain.

Wondering where you read that from Steve Browne. My son and his buddies are in Rockport and were going to drive back to Austin today. We're going to make them stay another night (they'll hate that ) but would be interested in getting news on Cuero and Gonzales since they'll drive through each on their way and cross the Guadalupe a couple of times.

Canyon has gone up about 6' so far in the past 12-18 hours. I know there is more water coming but this won't even get close to pool level of 909 let alone the 943 spillway.

Been interesting monitoring fixed wing traffic in and out of Kerville.

Lots of TXDOT and DPS. Yesterday a pvt Cessna Citation that came from Long Island NY.

Now it appears a USCG Gulfstream. I'm guessing carrying Noem. Originated from Ronald Reagan.

My parents live in Timberwood Park (south of bulverde) and just got hammered with 4 inches of rain in an hour.

There was a TXDOT plane that landed ahead of it that did the same. Pretty much every plane I've seen land there did the same to the NW.

It is on final now.

It has to be Noem.

Maybe Cornyn too. Guess Ted is in Cancun.

I'm wondering about the Citation yesterday from Long Island.

I know Abbot was not around initially.

That's where I'm at. Filled our rain gauge in about an hour.

He was at the presser I saw last night.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Trump here next week.

My place on the Guadalupe just South of I10 (Lake Placid) had 5.44 this morning. Lake was up about 6 feet only. I think dam on Dunlop was opened a bit also.

Any idea about the status of Lake McQueeney? I know it was drained 18-24 months ago for dam repair, but I have not kept up with progress there. If the dam is still open, has that helped or hampered the situation at Placid?

The original river is about where the water has been for the last two years. The McQueeny dam as well as the Placid dam have been under construction and the gates are pretty much inoperable so what ever water comes down just keeps going. It can spread out a bit if it comes in fast enough, but in reality it just flows through down the original river. This five inches fell below the Canyon dam so that did nothing to slow it down.

Placid has been down 16 feet for a year now.

Wanted to share this here with hopes that someone may know their whereabouts. This is a family that's very near and dear to ours, including one of my son's best friends. We haven't heard from them since the flood. They were there for a youth rodeo. They camp in a white Dodge dullie with a bed over cabin. Praying they are ok.

At the risk of offering a truly uneducated suggestion, why, given the propensity for this type of event to happen every few years, do they not build a lake in the Kerrville area to absorb the runoff and take the pressure off of downstream areas? Isn't that what Canyon Lake is for? Would it work upstream toward Hunt and Kerrville?

This deserves its on thread to not derail this one.

Short version is water rights, environmental regulations, property rights, funding, etc.

It took LCRA over 20 years to study, permit, and construct (on-going) their last reservoir.

No one with land wants it taken via eminent domain. I think there is a lake proposed east of BCS that likely won't be built for the same reason.

Just getting back home and service from Hunt. We went to bed around 1130PM not raining, and woke up at 230AM to water hitting windows of the house. The speed it rose Is insane.

Our family and friends are safe back home now, my heart breaks for the ones that were not so lucky.

Yesterday when water finally dropped I spent the day clearing out bridges of trees, guardrails and debris so people could get by. I cant describe how bad it looks. Our favorite little town, Hunt, is destroyed.

Prayers for everyone.

Applewhite Reservoir- remember that? Instead of offending people and building it 40 years ago, San Antonio just sucks water from everyone else.

We drove up from the coast to Cuero, waited on some of the storms in NB then headed from Cuero to NB with no problems.

Odd that the lake level on Canyon is flat over the past 3 hours with 20k cfs flowing in. Wondering if the gauge stuck.

That's what I was wondering. Went up almost a foot from like noon to 1 then flat from there. 20000 Cfs avg in and dam only releasing like 100 cfs

Since family has shared, I can share with yall.

They found my friend John, who was staying in an RV at HTR with his wife snd two sons.

He didnt make it.

They are still looking for the other three. His daughter was at camp (not mystic) and is safe and with family.

I am beyond gutted. He was an amazing human and the world is lessened by his absence.
