No need to pray for me, but any you can spare for Johns family is appreciated.

It will be hours. Took 16 hours for Guadalupe River flood waters to reach Spring Branch yesterday.

There are several lakes and dams between Kerville and Cuero...

Lots of rain flowing into the Guadalupe below Canyon Lake. That will make it to Gonzales and Cuero.

Want to ask this question on this thread and not the other.

They have been talking about a dam breaking since yesterday morning just upstream from Mystic. Does anyone have any further details on that.

I know there are 100 dams big and small through that area. I have fished off several of them in my younger days. Just wondering where this one was and how much impact it had on this disaster.

Continued prayers for the victims and families

It also could have just been a temporary "dam" caused by debris. Saw that a lot in 2002 where debris would stack up and hold back water for a bit and then break and you'd get a surge.

Hard to imagine in places where the river is really wide like in Kerrville but it's not that wide in some places, especially way up there.

Probably Ingram Dam which is below mystic but not sure.

There was talk of the Ingram Dam breaking, but people have said it was overtopped, not broken. This was already downstream of Camp Mystic though.

Yea that's not it but I was explaining that risk to my son today. That's been a danger all through the region today. All that stuff builds up almost like a beaver dam then gives out and wham.

Also read your story and glad you got out. Must have been scary AF.
bobinator

Yeah Ingram Dam wouldn't have had anything to do with Mystic. It would have been something much smaller and further upstream of mystic to cause a surge there.

That's why all the creeks got crazy in 2002. My family lives near Lytle Street park and it's hard to imagine the flooding that happened that year from that tiny creek.

If you look at Google maps, there is a very small dam just before Camp Mystic.

Thank you. I was lucky in a lot of ways but one of them is that it was too dark for me to really get a good look upriver or I probably would have been more freaked out than I was. I didn't really realize how bad it was getting and how fast it was getting there until we were already out.

Since family has shared, I can share with yall.

They found my friend John, who was staying in an RV at HTR with his wife snd two sons.

He didnt make it.

They are still looking for the other three. His daughter was at camp (not mystic) and is safe and with family.

I am beyond gutted. He was an amazing human and the world is lessened by his absence.
He was such a good guy. Just an awesome family. Having a really hard time wrapping my head around this.

And I'm sure that's why some people may have been discouraging volunteers from driving in. Roads and bridges are probably still uncertain in some places, and the last thing anyone wants is to create more rescue needs.

Been interesting monitoring fixed wing traffic in and out of Kerville.

Lots of TXDOT and DPS. Yesterday a pvt Cessna Citation that came from Long Island NY.

Now it appears a USCG Gulfstream. I'm guessing carrying Noem. Originated from Ronald Reagan.

It's doing circles. Assuming looking at river ...

That's just part of the instrument approach procedure. There is a procedure turn 12.5 nm from the airport to establish inbound.

My brother posted a message that a coworker of his in Kingwood and his wife and kid were found deceased. Very sad. He has taught in Kingwood for years so it is a good chance he is referring to the family posted earlier in this thread.

Probably no dam broke. It is a common euphemism or idiom describing a sudden onset of something, so it may be just someone's description of how fast and sudden the water rise was, and people are taking it literally. A big flash flood can seem like this, and in a way it is. They often have a leading edge of mud/gravel/debris that causes the water behind to build into a pent up wall, and that front part is what tears down and Carrie's off more things in the flood path.

Yes you're speaking about Jeff, Amber and Shiloh. They lived here in Kingwood. Jeff was close to retiring from Kingwood Park High School and Amber had been with Insperity for 25 plus years. This was a very close family to my family and we are beyond devastated. Just unable to wrap my head around the events and loss of so many loved ones. Their son Shiloh was our youngest son's best friend. This family was good people. Jeff, A Sam Houston State grad, loved Texas A&M and everything it stood for. They all had amazing personalities and passion for all things that Shiloh was involved with. The reason they were even in Kerrville was because, Shiloh is a multi time State and National Champ junior bronc rider, and they were in the area for a youth rodeo. Sorry for the ramble but it's been a very hard night trying to make sense of everything and console our 12 year about this loss.

Posted something on F16 but felt like this deserved more reach so here it goes. I debated whether or not to post anything but please stay AWAY from supporting Operation Airdrop in this. They were specifically set up after Harvey as an org to use GA aircraft when roads were washed out - typically only for a few days to a week after a natural disaster. It made sense when that was the only way. It's obviously not efficient when the roads are open.

I worked with them in NC after Helene and they received so much money donated that they had leftover cash at the end of the week when they closed down air operations. Instead of passing it to a group that could use it and specialized in recovery like Team Rubicon or Samaritan's Purse, they started buying and distributing propane and RVs, among other non-mission centric activities. They brought on a new executive director after Helene who has quietly changed the mission to try to grift off any disaster he can and this one is no different. They have been repeating Kerr County updates in the first person as though they are deploying their own air assets and making rescues themselves, but they are not. Those were followed with requests for donations. The flack they got caused them to take those "updates" down. They are now asking for donations of money and supplies in north Texas and most recently have announced that they "have been asked" to coordinate and run the Burnet County relief efforts. They have also asked people to fly supplies into Burnet Muni and give more money so they can truck them further toward Kerrville. At one point they even said this will be a disaster recovery operation, which they obviously are not set up to do. Do not give to them. There are better orgs that aren't just looking to do some disaster tourism and take your money.

If you feel compelled to give, please give to a local organization in one of the impacted counties. Comanche Trace is coordinating a large supply drive, but there are others too. I just don't want people wasting time and money to help prop up someone's ego in North Texas.

Update from Texas A&M task force 1. Also, people who are looking to donate, the Texas A&M task force foundation would be a good place to do so.

We are extremely grateful for all of the Texas Task Force members who have been a part of the catastrophic flooding in the Texas hill country.

TX-TF1 members were deployed ahead of the flash flooding in several locations, including Kerrville, and have been active making rescues since the first rains fell. Over 175 personnel are working this event which includes searching for the missing and performing many rescues in several locations where flash flooding is still occurring.

Their dedication to serving other Texans is exemplary

Deployed members include:

- Texas A&M Task Force 1(TX-TF1)- A Type 3 Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) team with water capabilities- 53 personnel

-Texas Task Force 2 (TX-TF2)- A Type 3 Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) team with water capabilities- 46 personnel

-TX-TF1-9 Swif****er/Flood Rescue Teams with inflatable rescue boats- 76 personnel

-TX-TF1- Helicopter Search and Rescue Technicians (HSART), rescue swimmers who will partner with Texas Military Department (TMD) and US Coast Guard (USCG) aircraft- 9-personnel

-11-Search Canines

-27-boats in use between all teams

I thought the Feds reimburse for the expenses of TX Task Force (s)? That is why they get it declared as a federal disaster area.
Independence H-D
How long do you want to ignore this user?
They do. However, there are many things that aren't reimbursed federally. They are one of the few teams in the country that is both a state and federal asset. There is also support for members and their families who need assistance. You can find out more at this website.

https://www.texastaskforcefoundation.org/

OUR PURPOSE
Our sole purpose is to support the men and women that support the citizens of Texas during natural disasters and emergencies.
We support them by providing additional equipment, sponsoring training opportunities, and acquiring recognition that they would otherwise be unable to provide due to their status as a state agency.
This support is only possible by donations, charitable contributions, fundraisers, and sales of merchandise specific to emergency response

My inlaws had a place on Rockport when Harvey came in. We took a lot of supplies down there for the relief effort. The Scientologist flooded one donations station with people getting in the way to show they were helping so that they could get video ops. I wanted to go punch all those a-holes in the junk.

They should honestly just send them away if they are simply attention seeking.
