Seems to me the ability to write characters like Apone, Hicks, Hudson, Vasquez, Gorman, Drake...are dead. RIP
Young writers are so infused with the zeitgeist of the times it is no surprise to see the lead being a girl with boyish haircut, placing a variant of a samurai sword on her back confidently proclaiming, "We're fast. We're strong. We don't break."
I don't think most mind dissenting opinions as long as there's some substance to them. Too many, particularly on this board, are absolutely the drive by type with no actual desire to discuss anything.AGinHI said:
Thank you. It's a brief, dissenting opinion, which don't fly too well here, but without going down the dreaded F16 road I wanted to comment.
I'm 52 this year and there have been two movies which are flashbulb memories for me. My very first movie in a theater - Star Wars.
And opening night for Aliens when I was 13.
Which has remained my favorite movie ever since, and every iteration thereafter has been disappointingly unable to come close to recapturing the essence of the first two.
I am 43 and feeling nostalgic for you. That must have been amazing. Just re-watched this the other night for the first time in years. I can see why some people rank #1 over #2, but #2 just has the better combination of action and suspense to me. Plus more of an 80's action-movie feel with the characters.AGinHI said:

But honestly, sometimes it's just someone giving a sincere opinion and that someone may just see things differently than some others on here. But all too often, this seems to genuinely offend a few people on here.fig96 said:I don't think most mind dissenting opinions as long as there's some substance to them. To be fair I'm referring to a very specific subset of posters that routinely post comments with a very similar theme (and generally show no desire to engage in discussion around the actual show/movie).Butcher of Bakersfield said:But honestly, sometimes it's just someone giving a sincere opinion and that someone may just see things differently than some others on here. This trailer for #AlienEarth is so, so good.

And I'm now allowed to say I've seen the entire first episode of the show and it too is so, SO, good.
Totally feels like Alien, but from a new, unique & very surprising perspective. Can't wait to fully obsess over it later this year https://t.co/iTWP56LguB

I'm big on continuity. Curious how this leads into the movie franchise. Seems kinda like there's a big hole to fill on a space ship crashing into earth two years before the nostromo events on lv 426 and it not being a noteworthy thing in the movie. Retcons incoming.

While I agree about a potential plot hole, I am thinking that given that only Ash had any knowledge of the alien, I doubt the rest of the crew would ever have known of anything. And maybe the events of this show spurs WY to put the Nostromo crew on its mission.
‘ALIEN: EARTH’ debuts with 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.

With FX's Alien: Earth, Fargo creator Noah Hawley tackles the gargantuan task of spinning off an iconic film into a TV series. There are some hiccups, but most of it works smashingly. My review: https://t.co/7JXGBg1FUd

ALIEN: EARTH is bloody, beautiful, and one of the best new series of 2025. Noah Hawley episodically expands the Alien mythos with cinematic scale and a crew of compelling, instantly memorable characters. It’s bold, brutal, and breathes new life into a legendary franchise,… pic.twitter.com/iost14qKe7
