I'm still iffy on the show, but regardless, Timothy Olyphant is killing it.

Anyone else think the old British guy is also a synth? The way he caught the ball that Boy bounced at him was almost exactly like what Wendy did when he threw it hard at her earlier.

Yep, I've been assuming that.

I've been struggling with that. He's more robotic than Kirsh but I haven't been able to tell if it's because he's a synth or just too British.

I haven't read the thread to avoid spoilers. I enjoy the Alien universe, love most of what Noah Hawley and Olyphant do.
Thinking of starting this. Worth it?

I rank Alien as the best movie of its type ever made. It will never be matched. I have had a few qualms about this, but overall I am enjoying Alien: Earth.

I'm not Cinco Ranch, but I'm in agreement with him.
I'd say the type is sci-fi horror/suspense. I think that category can run the gamut from Alien to Terminator, and Alien is probably the best ever made.

Now that we know Boy Kavalier was a part of the sabotage of the Maginot from the beginning him recklessly sending the kid hybrids into the wreck makes a lot more sense.
I thought the creepy bald Asian dude was a synth. Guess not.
Was everyone on the Maginot incompetent at their job except Morrow?

Agreed, and Boy K does not care about the Lost Boys. If they perish, he will make new ones.
Same, but he kept smoking so I ruled it out.
For real! The XO turned captain who was banging her crewmate was completely inept. The science officer hosed everyone. The doctor was an addict and a liability. I was relieved when they all bought it.

Incompetence seems to be a highly valued quality for Weyland-Yutani HR.
The XO-Captain tried to assert herself a couple of times, but just couldn't seem to command complete respect. And then she fell apart after the deaths in the med bay.
The science officer violated likely every safety protocol known to mankind.
The doctor came across as a fraud. Again, safety protocols. You are operating on someone with an unknown thing in the chest. No safety equipment at all. So that thing ejects a poison gas and bam, all dead.
The senior engineer seemed like a decent enough character, but the junior trainee was an uneducated moron. Didn't know basic words but you expect me to believe this kid can be trained in an engineering capacity?
Seriously, no real company would ever hire any of these buffoons to work on a rig or similar environment. I never had thoughts like these about the characters in Alien/Aliens/Alien3. Prometheus was really the first time I saw this kind of idiocy in the characters, notably the two clowns who first encountered the eel thing and thought it would be fun to play with it. Oh, Alien: Resurrection was peopled with cartoon characters, but that movie was overall a stinking pile of *****
Having said all of that, I am still enjoying Alien: Earth.
