The commission is all still a bunch of democrats.

The commission is restricted by their constitution to once per decade redistricting. They cannot do mid-decade redistricting.

That's the reason Newsome's suspending the commission until 2030 and he has super majorities in both houses so it's inevitable what's going to happen.

No way they drain that many Dems out of that many districts and have them all remain "safe". Plus, their voters have to overturn the redistricting commission. GOP will by 100% behind the commission and thus only need a small number of Dems to keep it.

Still has to be approved by voters for him to do that, and right now polling is 60/40 against doing so.

"Every California resident will be given 2 pounds of weed for free by the state per year that redistricting is authorized by the legislature."
-Something along those lines.

The GOP merely needs to survive for about 2-3 more election cycles in California.

The state is showing signs of movement to the right.

I would dearly love to see the movements to split Cali, Oregon, and Washington into multiple states succeed. Getting those additional senate seats and no longer diluting those populations into gerrymandered partially urban districts would do wonders for the house and senate balance.

What happens if the SCOTUS determines illegals should not be included in the Census?

CA and NY, (and red states) would need to reconvene and redraw districts. If this is after the primaries, does that result in red states filling vacancies formed by new districts for 2 years?

I think they will just defy the USSC. That's where we are.

The states can't. The legislative apportionment numbers come from the Feds. The states just can't say "yeah we want 73 representatives"

That will be a fun a fun fight. CA sends 52 congressmen to DC and the speaker refuses to accept the whole delegation because the SCOTUS and Census (revised) says they only have 47 seats.

If it wasn't already, this should seal that piece of crap's fate. It's inexcusable. It's a thumb in the eye of every Texas Republican. I pray this arrogant jerk goes down in flames in his next primary.

And, not a single absconding coward has had their committee assignment(s) yanked, nor have any fines/penalties been enforced.

It was all a rino lie.

Because that is all we ever get out of our statehouse.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but will this redistricting improve our chances of putting a true Republican at the speakers podium in the Texas house, instead of the democrats choice?

What am I missing here? Unqualified dolt from FW virtue signals by staying at the Texas Capitol overnight because she doesn't want to sign "GOP permission slip" that's a promise to return for the special session Wednesday, but she's literally camped out where they want her.

They did say their conditions were met and that's why they returned. It appears burrows gave them everything.

Cannot wait until the day we have a Republican government that learns from Trump and DeSantis to just do what needs to be done because they'll hate you either way.
Ellis Wyatt

Why would they be? Democrats control the Texas House.
Ellis Wyatt
How long do you want to ignore this user?
There's nothing to learn. People like Burrows and Phelan and Buckley are not Trump allies. They don't want to govern as effective republicans. They want to obstruct conservatism.

Beyond their time being wasted, they didn't care at all that they Dems ran away. They know the playbook the whole time. How do you think we had a poster here who knew when they would return? It's all a sham on the voters of Texas.
