The commission is restricted by their constitution to once per decade redistricting. They cannot do mid-decade redistricting.
That's the reason Newsome's suspending the commission until 2030 and he has super majorities in both houses so it's inevitable what's going to happen.
Still has to be approved by voters for him to do that, and right now polling is 60/40 against doing so.
The GOP merely needs to survive for about 2-3 more election cycles in California.
The state is showing signs of movement to the right.
I would dearly love to see the movements to split Cali, Oregon, and Washington into multiple states succeed. Getting those additional senate seats and no longer diluting those populations into gerrymandered partially urban districts would do wonders for the house and senate balance.
