So what's the all in cost for a standard setup going to be? I haven't run the numbers but that's not looking enticing so far.

$500 for the Console with Mario Kart World
$70 if you want to update the storage to $512GB
$80 / year if you want to play Game Cube games and have online for the whole family
$90 if you want a second joy con 2 (old ones will work if you have a way of charging them w/o a switch 1)
$50 if you want the camera

$80 for MKW is still pricey though. My hope for that is that MKW in particular will include all future DLC in that price.

Yea, I think MKW will get free updates. I think they're pricing this game to last for the whole console cycle. You only get 1 Mario Kart per generation. We'll be playing Mario Kart World into the 2030s

I was pretty much 100% going to get all of this stuff on day 1, but I'm not thrilled with the prices. Will probably wait a while now.

Shortly after news of the pricing was spreading I wondered if I should maybe look into a Steam Deck or a PS5. While the initial pricing reports don't make me any happier than the next person, I'm probably still going to buy a Switch 2 as soon as I can. There's a level of fun and enjoyment that I get from Nintendo titles that I just don't get on any other system. While I've loved titles on PS4 like Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us, and Spider-Man they just don't do the same thing that Mario Kart, Zelda, and Metroid have. The footage I've seen of Mario Kart looks awesome. I'm also looking forward to replaying Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom on the Switch 2, regardless of when we might get a new title. I'm also pretty confident that I'll get what I'm paying for with Nintendo, even with the increased pricing. I've been playing Nintendo for about 40 years now and I don't see that stopping.

I just got an email from Nintendo.

Informing me about an upcoming sale on the e shop

Trying to think of the best way to get in the preorder. I remember getting in line at Best Buy the day of release for the Switch.

I submitted a request on the MyNintendo store. Invites for that won't go out until May though. I'm going to try Amazon and Best Buy whenever retailers put them up.

For the MyNintendo store, they have qualifications you have to meet to get an invite. I've had an NSO subscription active for a long while, so I'll hopefully get an invite if other options sell out before that.

I don't expect this to sell out at launch. We'll see.

I did Best Buy in-store pickup for the Switch on Day 1. Glad I did because it was scalped for several months.

I think it will sell out now that you have this panic behind tariffs. People will just throw it on a credit card without thinking.

I would love to see Nintendo put enough stock out that everyone that wants one can get one, AND scalpers buy up a ton they can't turn around and sell. Best of both worlds. Legit customers are happy, and scalpers are outta luck!

Mario Kart 8 is one of the best-selling games of all time.
