The way I figure it, we need a beer thread. I try to drink different kinds of beer as often as possible. And I think some of you guys try to change it up on a pretty regular basis as well. As any good Texan is, I'm a huge fan of Shiner beers. I've also come to love Real Ale just as much as Shiner.

I am also a home brewer, as are many of you. But I don't only drink what I brew. There is way too much beer out there for me to only drink what I make.

The idea here is that we'll talk about what we drank, are drinking or are gonna drink.

This weekend I'm drinking Sierra Nevada's Kellerweis, which I've had before and enjoyed. I also bought Warsteiner's Dunkel, which I'm having as I type this. It's a German beer which is surprisingly lacking a bit in flavor.

On the home brew front, I've got a batch of Dunkel in the secondary. I'll be bottling in four days.

Now, who is drinking and/or brewing what?

Kona Pipeline porter and homebrew märzen here this weekend. Helps dull the Aggie game pain.

I like this plan.

Oskar Blues Gordon in the fridge.

HOPopotomaus Black IPA on the tap.

Sexual Chocolate imperial stout on the hidden tap.

Honey Amber getting kegged tomorrow.

I have a rye imperial IPA, a brown ale, and a sam adams noble pils clone on tap.

Tonight I'm drinking a buddy's dopplebock in bottles.

I had a Shiner 101 at Rudy's tonight.

And this whale was there too. Had to be discrete, hence the bad pic.

IsleAg, heck of an idea for a thread ...

And I'd buy you one if the opportunity ever arose.

Regular Sause overpowers the flavor of the meat.

I bet you put beans in your chili too.

My "Day of Rest" Double IPA on tap.

Usually keep an IPA (Torpedo, Hop Czar) and a porter/stout (Black Butte, Anchor) in bottles.

I've been on a brown ale/Oktoberfest/Stout kick lately... with 3 sixer's of each bought the past few weeks.

For Browns, I'd put Sierra Nevada's Tumbler first, then Real Ale's Brewhouse, followed by Brooklyn's Brown.

In the Oktoberfests I'd go with Hacker-Pschorr's first, then Real Ale's, with Sam Adam's last.

Of the Stouts I've bought, I like the newly available Guinness Foreign Extra Stout best. (Far better than the normal watery Guiness) Next up I liked the Obsidian Stout from Deschutes & finally the Sierra Nevada Stout.

Gotta say that when in doubt, pick up any beer from Sierra Nevada... I've never had a bad one.

I like Shiner as oposed to anything in the "lite" category. But the other day someone suggested a 1554 which was pretty good. I also tried a fancy lawnmower which was good as well. i'm probably not a real discriminating beer drinker.

I have a keg of Real Ale's Devil's Backbone tapped - gotta be careful with that stuff. I also have a keg of their #4 on backup. And I am also a fan of their Octoberfest.

I have homebrew Cherry-Chocolate Double stout at room temperature, homebrew trippel bottled and ready, homebrew faux-Octoberfest kegged, homebrew Porter kegged, and a Golden Monkey Bomber just in case things get serious around here.

Great thread idea.

October is my favorite month for several reasons, one of which is Oktoberfest beers. I have four different ones on hand and was fortunate enough to have them all this weekend. So, in order of most liked:

Spaten Oktoberfest
St. Arnolds
Paulaner
Shiner

I really want to try Real Ale's Oktoberfest, but haven't found it anywhere yet. Also had a Spaten Dunkel that was excellent.

On Tap:
ESB
Dunkelweizen

Conditioning:
Bohemian Pilsner

On Deck:
Irish Stout

In the fridge in bottles I have: Newcastle, Sam Adams Octoberfest, RedHook ESB, Fat Tire, Real Ale Full Moon and Bud light Lime. Ok, I was kidding about the bud light lime.

Today I was out workin on deers stands. We drank Lone Star longnecks and Pearl.

Tomballag74-

I love that New Belgium 1554... I haven't tasted anything else quite like it.

I got on a Belgian kick in late summer. I gotta say Duvel is a heck of a beer. Also had the Devil's Backbone and New Belgium Abbey and Trippel... all great. Those extra few percentage points of alcohol can add up quickly!

Nice Double..RA Devils Backbone is awesome. Drinking some Dogfish Immort Ale now. Better than I thought it would be.

Just kegged an Oktoberfest and a Kolsh...got on the German kick a bit, so I guess I need to get an Alt going next after my trip to Dusseldorf two weeks ago. I also bottled up a honey brown. My first attempt at all-grain, so hopefully they turn out well. A little low on the gravity for the Marzen, but I'm sure the taste will be there.

Otherwise, St Arnolds Spring Bock is one of my favs next to the Christmas Ale.

The Real Ale Oktoberfest is good but not worth the $3 mark up they are asking for it. It has been available at HEB on Buffalo Speedway in Houston all month. St. Arnold's and Sierra Nevada oktober beers are good.

these days i consider shiner a starter beer for people's conversion to real beers. it's like the first step to getting away from CoorBudMillers of the world.

any one that is Houston be on the look out for No Label Brewing company that just got started up in Katy. they were at the Monsters of Beer festival yesterday. i tried 3 of their beers and they were all very good.

I went to the fall beer festival on sat at brennans on the bayou... Got to try many beers, some of which i've already had.

Shiner - tried the 101 and holiday cheer.. both were meh
Paulaner - tried the octoberfest, it was one of my fav's of that style
New Belgium - had em all before, so i enjoyed some ranger, hoptober, and 1554
Real Ale - didn't like their octoberfest, brown ale was OK, i like the rye and pale ale.
Southern Star - all 3 of theirs are great for their style.
Dogfish Head - don't like that raison beer, they ran out of midas touch before i could try it.. always a fan of the 60 and 90 min's
St. arnolds - octoberfest is good, not great, most of us have had all their beers..
Stone - sublimely righteous ale, a black IPA.. best beer at the festival hands down. go try it if you haven't yet (and you like ipas)
also, i had their oak arrogent *******.. that was very tasty as well. and stone's beer maid had the biggest most exposed boobs, so that was a plus.

homebrews: an irish red bottled and a bavarian wheat on tap

had a 6 pack of hop czars yesterday.

I think blue moon helped this tremendously.. ironically made by coors.

and in the homebrew world, we say BMC beers.

On Tap:

Cerveza de Zona - a basic extract cerveza made with Nottingham yeast and noble hops
Weiss Squad - a honey wheat made with Sorachi Ace hops - I had poor extraction from the 2-row due to poor crush from AHS and the honey and wheat absolutely overwhelms the palate, not very good. I choked down 5 gals already but the 2nd 5 gals might get dumped.
Hopped Up - an IPA based loosely upon Victory Hop Devil, dry-hopped in the fermenter with 1 oz Amarillo pellets and kegged yesterday with 1 oz leaf Cascade in a muslin bag suspended from the dip tube. Will report on this one at a later date.

Drank a bunch of Deschutes Jubelale on tap Saturday.

Had a couple of New Belgium's IPA yesterday, not my favorite, but not bad and occasionally a good price at the grocery store.

I agree with both of the above statements. Real Ale's Fireman's #4 is also a good "entry" beer.

I will still drink some BMC beer if its going to be a long day. I can't drink the real beers for that length of time, yet.

add lawnmower and bombshell blonde to the local list as well. the girls are really digging these beers, seeing past the BMC bullsh*t.
