Had a couple of friends swing by, one of who is new to craft beer. He wanted to try some IPAs. Had a Titan, DR 11 and a 90 minute. Also had a Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan, good stuff.

Finishing out the night with an Avery/Russuan River Collaboration not Litigation belgian ale. Good night here!

By the way, we split the IPAs, so not drooling on myself yet.

I just finished off a bottle of Dogfish Head Namaste. It is a Belgian White and was okay... nothing to rave about.

Last week I tried their Red and White which wasn't my favorite either.

I think after going on a IPA spree for the past few weeks... these beers are lacking in that something something that hoppier beers have

I scoured the entire specs bomber section for a black ipa.. I've had the stone sublimely plenty of times, was wanting to try another.. Well low and behold, there was one other kind.
Boy was it tasty.. this is def. a style I am really liking.. wish I could find more of em around here.. I've had the pyramid one as well when I was in CA.

Bump in the Night is a very, very good brew. I prefer it over the Stone competitor, and I am not really a fan of Full Sail in general.

I also like the fact that they are dumping the "Black IPA" moniker. I'm not sure if Cascadian Dark Ale is much better but "Black India Pale Ale" seems like a silly category.

Out of beer after a long week. I was finally on the way home around 1130 and stopped at a gas station to get some Lone Star Tall Boys or Shiner. To my surprise, they had a 6 of this bad boy for $7.99...

I bought a four pack of Southern Star Brewery's Pine Belt Ale last night. Pretty darn good. Came in 16 ounce cans. Had a nice nutty flavor. I'll have to try some more of their stuff.

Had the Alamo Golden Ale last night & give it 3 stars out of 5. Pretty average stuff IMO. I was confused though, the label says Real Ale makes it, but it is not on their website. Anyone know the scoop on this?

Also, fyi, Real Ale is now bottling the Lost Gold IPA. I had one of those last night as well & they are very good. A notch below Deschute's Inversion... I like it about as much as Sierra Nevada's Torpedo.

alamo beer company is the actual beer company.. but real ale brews it through contract.. until alamo gets it's own building/equipment.

Makes sense. It would be cool if the Alamo guys could make a beer similar to what was in Texas (if there was any) in the 1830's. "Drink the beer that Crockett & Travis drank!" would be a pretty good tagline. Bowie I'm sure drank nothing but Tequila, Whiskey, and the blood of his enemies.

Had some of the Full Sail LTD Lager (yellow label) this weekend and it was quite good. If you can find it I would recommend.

I'll have to try that. I had their blonde ale last night (blue can) and didn't care much for it.

However, I had this last night and thought it was outstanding: http://realalebrewing.com/beers/lostgold

Okay fellas, I'm graduating in August and I've got a job.

I need to up grade to a kegging system so I can get back to brewing. I HATE bottling and I brew much less due to the fact that I don't keg.

What do I NEED and what should I want. I'd like to have at least two beers on tap at any given time.

Been meaning to bump this. I went to a Dale Watson show last weekend at Jester King brewery off 290 SW of Austin. Tried 4 different beers:
Black Metal Imperial Stout - Not the ideal day for this beer with the 95 degree weather, but it was still great. 10% alcohol too.

Wychmaker Rye IPA - Probably my favorite beer of the night. Somethign about IPA's and warm weather go together.

Drinkin' the Sunbelt - This was excellent & unusual - a cross between a pale ale & wheat. Very refreshing.

Commercial Suicide - This is what they called a "session" beer - English Dark Mild Ale. Low ABV around 3.5% so you don't get hammered, but it is a dark & malty tasting. I would love them to bottle or can this as a low alcohol. alternative to the BMC watery beers.

Highly recommend a tour of the brewery & any Jester King beer. They were all fantastic.

Try the Widmer X-114. Pretty good stuff for $6.99 a sixer.

Anyone who ever visits Kentucky needs to track down the Kentucky Bourbon Ale. It is amazing in a bottle...that is all.

you have space to go the chest freezer route? find a craigslist score for a 5 cu.ft. chest freezer.. will hold 2 kegs, up to 4 w/ a collar.

you don't need much.. kegs, co2 tank/regulator, hoses, adaptors, and a johnson type controller to keep freezer at fridge temps.
you're looking at $350 maybe for all that if you score a cheap freezer.

Working through a 6 or Left Hand Milk Stout, would buy again though not as good as from tap at the Flying Saucer last month.
Also,
Sierra Nevada Porter
Rahr & Sons Ugly Pug Black Lager
All good, the Black has to be my favorite Rahr thus far but I'm still undecided on the SN Porter.

I tried the Devil's Backbone - seems too sweet. Haven't found a Real Ale beer that's really impressed me yet.

Now the Deschutes Obsidian Stout I tried in NM last week was awesome! They're quickly becoming my favorite brewery.
