We're at a friend's house on the north end of LBJ in Highland Haven. Their house is on the water. I know the water levels are controlled on LBJ, but should we be concerned about the Llano dumping too much water into the lake if Mason got 15" of rain last night?

We're about 400 yds from the Guadalupe just west of the 281 bridge in the Spring Branch area but we're at about 1055 ft above sea level and the normal river level is at 965 so it would take a 90 ft rise to affect us but all the structures for folks with riverfront property are supposed to be built at 10 feet above ft above the 100 year flood plain. They have gotten water in their residences on several occasions. It usually takes about 36 hours for heavy runoff from the Kerrville area to make it down here so with the centralized rainfall and the distance it has to travel to get here it will be interesting to see how high it gets.

We are getting hit with tons of rain in the Concho Valley as well but nothing like the devastation along the Guadalupe though. Hope everyone down that way has made it out to higher ground by now.

Swift water rescues happening all around our house out here 17 miles East of San Angelo. Some areas have received up to 15" and still raining. Multiple friends with water 3'+ deep inside their homes. Three cars have washed off the road into a farm of ours along Lipan Creek north of HWY 87. VFD getting the drivers/passengers out now.

I would at least regularly check the flow of the Llano. That area really only floods when the Llano backs up

Dry in Medina county. I think we got 1/3 inch of the past few days. Better than a poke in the eye.

We're also in Highland Haven with the in-laws. Neighbors who have been here for years have said they're not really concerned, but they are monitoring

LCRA should, I stress, should, be aware of the cfm flow of the Llano upstream of LBJ and start letting water out of LBJ to compensate for it. Travis is extremely low so they can move a lot of water down the Highland Lake chain right now without the risk of flooding Town Lake etc.
The Colorado and San Saba rivers are flooding, but again, Lake Buchanan is so low right now it can handle lots of water before LCRA needs to open gates at Buchanan letting water into Inks or LBJ.

Just keep an eye on things.

However, sometimes LCRA miscalculates and things get messed up.
Just keep an eye on things.
Just look back at the flooding of the fall of 2018 and how the flooding from Llano to Marble Falls to Lake Travis was managed to see the difficulties of controlling lake levels with so much water flowing into and out of the chain lake systems.

The news just said the Guadalupe is flowing at 166000 cu ft per second. That is just a crazy amount of moving water. Thank goodness Canyon Lake is in the way to absorb some of this before it gets to New Braunfels and Seguin.

2.2 inches in Junction since midnight. South Llano River may be up only a couple of inches so far but some of the water may not be down yet as heavy rain between the state park and Telegraph. I was in Kerrville yesterday and remarked to wife how beautiful the Guadalupe R. was as we had lunch at restaurant right on the river. Praying for all those folks.

Some slightly drunk rough math shows at that rate lake will fill to pool in ~12 hours of that flow. Wild how much water it will hold. Also wild to think how much water moved in 2002 to go over the spillway.

Don't know if I can post a Facebook video on this site. Just found this. So reminiscent of what happened in wimberley. I pray the people in this house are safe.

Did you guys eat at the Lakehouse Restaurant by chance?
Friend of mine in Kerrville knows the owner and he said it has water in the restaurant.

Anyone have updates from Camp LaJunta? My son is there. The camp has communicated that all of the boys are fine and accounted for, but would appreciate any additional information anyone can provide.

Channel 4 in SA said they have a reporter headed to that camp right now and will have a report when they get there.

Yep. The issue then, which created lots of controversy, was that most of the Highland Lakes were pretty full and LCRA didn't react in time and they had nowhere to go with the water without flooding Town Lake and the jogging and recreation areas in Austin….and they were not about to do that.
I was living in Marble Falls at that time and remember that Lake Travis was at 83% full, and once that water hit and overflowed, Starcke Dam in Marble Falls it was too late to move water out. Lake Travis peaked at 140% full a few days later.

Rain can be 20 miles upstream and seems to hit in the middle of the night more often than not.

It can go from a drought that seems like it will never end to a major flood in a couple of hours.

Maybe this video will post, maybe not. (Facebook video from KENS 5) This is video from a bridge showing how fast the river can rise. If I were this person I would have gotten the hell off that bridge

Hey Gunny,
We've eaten at the Lakehouse so many times but I only know the owner casually. We ate at Billy Jean's yesterday and am wondering if they also got water. I saw a photo of Lakehouse with essentially the building standing in water.

Watching as well since my daughter is up staying on LBJ this weekend.

As of now, LCRA is not expecting flood operations and the storm seems to be moving (albeit very slowly).

Stay safe and aware.

HEADS UP along the LLANO RIVER: The flood gauge in Mason county just jumped by 12 feet in the last 30 minutes (11:30 AM Friday) and is now in minor flood stage.

This flood water will move into Llano this afternoon while collecting more water from other creeks and streams. MINOR to MODERATE flooding will likely occur there in a very short period of time.

This is not the same kind of catastrophic flooding that swept through the Guadalupe River this morning, but could still sneak up on you if you are not prepared for it. Stay away from the river to be safe, and as always, don't even think about driving through a roadway that has water flowing over it.

We're located a few miles north of your location along Dry Hollow Creek. We've received just shy of 10" of rain. The Lipan in Mereta is higher than I've ever seen it. Dry Hollow is probably 250 yards across running through our place. Wild rain event for July!

Camp Mystic Families,

We have sustained catastrophic level floods. We have no power, water, or wifi. All Cypress Lake campers are accounted for. All campers on senior hill are accounted for. If your daughter is not accounted for you have been notified. If you have not been personally contacted then your daughter is accounted for. We are working with search and rescue currently. The highway has washed away so we are struggling to get more help. Please continue to pray and send any help if you have contacts to do so.
