On a somewhat related note, Marilyn Burgess, Harris County District Clerk has decided not to seek reelection, after Commissioners Court refused to consider her requested pay raise from $179,000 to $260,000. That was after voting for herself to receive a raise to $295,000 as a member of the Grievance Committee, but was opposed by the committee and the budget director.
Guess she forgot to ask Rodney's permission first.
the more interesting part of that story for me was her list of salary histories for other positions. Some of them have just gotten totally out of whack.

Yet the patrol deputies can't even get a 10% raise without all hell breaking loose.

Rodney Ellis' chief of staff is the one that always blows my mind and pisses me off the most. A guy w/ zero experience in public administration or local government, working for the county commissioner w/ the least responsibility for infrastructure, planning, or community services in incorporated Harris County - is making over $400k a year.
