Back to Metro. What I know is Metro is like USAID. Gets billions from Harris County to screw up our roads (Galleria bus lane down Post Oak is an effing disaster for what they spent on it) run some crappy bus system and train system running the homeless from NRG to Downtown and back.

I guarantee you that we could dissolve Metro and put half the money into an account gaining 5% IPY, and give everyone who rides the bus pre paid Uber cards instead and this fund would never run out of money. Much less get rid of buses, bus lanes, any god awful metro rail expansion and about 1000 bureaucrats making 200K plus a year for doing not much.

We know what game Metro is running . . .

They're probably dead or at least long gone.. Downtown has been like that for at least 25 years.

Or people answer the phone and act like they're in office, but you don't know where they are unless you ask and find out why they can't help or reach the person you need to reach.

Have experienced this personally with HC.

New in 2025: DOGE - The Board Game! Fun for everyone!

Find out how much your local government is pissing away!

Embarrass local communist county leadership by uncovering their grift and corruption! Oh wait, they are shameless. Doesn't matter, they'll just whine into the microphone in a condescending tone!

Houston Chronicle report shows 2-time elected official may not have shown up to work for years

Your tax dollars not at work. Literally.

Quote:

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Serious questions are coming to light about Harris County Tax Collector Ann Harris Bennett's job performance following a Houston Chronicle report showing the two-time elected official may not have shown up to work for years.

Bennett's office collects property taxes, processes vehicle registrations, and manages voter registration and records for Harris County's more than 2.5 million registered voters. However, public information requests from The Chronicle show she hasn't swiped her badge to enter the office or any county facility since 2020.

The Chronicle reports Bennett swiped her badge 92 times in 2019, seven times in 2020, and not once since then. Bennett has not been active online, sending a total of 18 emails since January.

Her annual salary is $171,000.

Right before scumbag time thief Ann Harris Bennett got busted for never going to work, one (then) current employee and two former employees were busted for taking bribes for fake auto titles.

I'm wondering if that is what clued the media into this excremental person's absence from the office. Once the reporter started asking where Anne was, you know some surly-ass useless Brenda spilled the beans.

In any event, the new tax assessor took office in January.

Its court day!
Lots of interesting items on today's agenda.

#1. New County Jail. Speakers against it are long and varied. From a rant against non-halal baloney being served (ties to the anti Islamophobia resolution this morning), to anti-ICE efforts, jobs programs, libraries solve crime and the issue revolving against the bail bonds. Theres a 1 min time limit, extended for every anti-jail speaker.

#2 A lot of discussion regarding fiscal impacts from the ending of the American Rescue Act and Reproductive Healthcare Access Fund. Ramsey flagged 11 items. I can already predict the vote to go 4-1 on these.

#3 Subdivision Drainage Projects. Essentially post Harvey and the big 2B bond cannot cover the planned projects for multiple reasons. They're trying to justify the future ask for another flood bond.

#4 $20 min wage for all county positions.

#5 Compensation study

#6 Telework Policy

#7 creating 4 new criminal courts

These appear to be the biggest items.

#7 new courts failed. Briones/Ramsey Yes. Dora/Ellis No and Garcia abstained for some reason.

Dora states the county is sinking and they're in a budget crunch.

#2 involves funding NGOs. Passed 3-1

#3 haggling over the remaining funds from the 2018 Flood Bond. May 8th theyre demanding a prioritized project list. Just fighting for funding.

Ellis is very upset that his precinct is getting short changed. He's calling department heads of Engineering and Flood Control liars.

Theyve finished 37 of 93 projects. County Engineer states in the next 18 months 89 of 93 projects will be done. Theres not enough funding for this promise.

#4 passed. New County min wage for County employees and County contractors.

#6, Telework RTO died due to no second on Ramsey's motion. Each department sets their own policy.

No over employment is permitted during normal working hours.
