I feel like everyone that has a destination wedding ends up divorced. It's the ultimate narcissistic move imo. Get tons of people to fork over a ton of money to watch a day all about you, instead of doing something much more accessible to friends and family.

We didn't have a destination wedding, but we did have an open bar with a tab up to $3000 available.

By gawd, our friends didn't almost hit it, and this was back in the 00s. Bunch of damned drunks.

I don't think you could call mine a destination, even though half had to travel. Wife is from Massachusetts and wanted a fall Mass wedding, which I get. It was a beautiful setting and all her family is up there and she had just moved away to be with me so it made sense.

I've been to two destination weddings and both couples ended up divorced. Small sample size, but batting 1.000.

The out of country destination weddings are something our parents would have mostly thought preposterous back in their day. Our grandparents? LOL forget about it.

You actually got me thinking about this. It's kind of amazing how modest and simple my parents' and grandparents' weddings were, compared to say, my sisters'.

My great-grandparents on one side were married in Mexico, but that's where they and their families were for work.

I have had to travel out of state for a couple of friends' weddings, but the weddings were in the brides' hometowns and they eventually paid for it by having to move to Houston and live with my friends. It was probably much less costly for me.

I don't see any correlation whatsoever to success weddings/marriages I've attended at "destinations" vs hometowns. I only have a problem with the destination weddings in places I don't want to go to and/or for people I don't want to go for (and then just don't go).

The correlation is probably the sub causal variables that women who get married in their family hometown are generally younger and closer to their family. Also higher chance of parental approval.

Where do destination vow renewals fall on the success/divorce spectrum?

We're Great Wolf Lodge people, so toying with heading east to Webster for a renewal.

But is it a destination renewal or not? Will all the piss in Pi Pi's Swashbuckler make me feel like I'm at resort south of the border?
