You know you're old when the music on the radio or out at the bar is grating to you but the grocery store is playing bangers.

HEB played Jimmy Eat World yesterday and I hummed along.

Jimmy Eat World is probably the worst concert I've ever been to. The crowd was yelling for them to get off the stage.

Saw them open for Manchester Orchestra 2 years ago amd Offspring last year and I liked them better than the headliner both times.

I'm with you on this. I've seen them the last five or six times they've been through and they are always fantastic.

That said, I was thinking about it, and I'll throw DMB in as an act that would probably bring out a ton of us in our 40s for the nostalgia if they didn't hit the Woodlands like most years.

Problem with DMB would be that it would be 2 songs, 1 Dave story and the Suburban would already be on the dirt making its way back to the stage.

I think the Foo Fighters would be a good older rock band that would draw a crowd. Still relevant today as well as famous for hits a decade ago.

I think the Dave Mathew band thing is more cultish and not as popular as some may think.

Agreed. I think the Foos definitely have a lot more general appeal. With DMB, you either really like them or you don't.

Real Ball Knowers know that this is the real HSLR lineup.

https://www.rodeohouston.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/2024_TheHideout_EntertainerCalendar.pdf

Mike in the Moonpies aren't on the lineup for the first time in forever.

Ideal HSLR rodeo day:
-Buy just a fairgrounds ticket
-Arrive at opening, go see the exhibits. I generally like seeing what giant trailers the FFA/4H/tech kids have welded up over the past year and are showing off.
-1PM at the latest: Proceed to outdoor wine venue. Sit in the area with the stage.
-Stay all day there listening to randos perform
-5PM go test out the massage chairs Mattress Firm/Gallery Furniture have set up. Take nap until sales person tells you to move.
-Go to the hideout when it opens.
-Shut the hideout down
-Take a ridiculously priced uber home.
-Brace for a rough sunday.

That's the Hideout lineup from 2024, this years hasn't been released yet. Like Chewy said, they used to get great bands and it was a lot of fun, but the lineups the past 10 years or so have been bad, you couldn't pay me to go in there now.

Thanks for the update.

Would I go to the rodeo on a random tuesday to see any of the hideout performers? No.

Will I keep the party going by stumbling into the hideout? Sure.

At some point, the hideout bands will get so bad and the uncorked lineup so good that you're just deciding if you want to drink inside a tent or outside a tent.

Any thoughts on why they have let the quality of the Hideout acts digress over the years? Are they not trying, is there a different group of people deciding the acts, or are they pushing more people towards the Wine Garden?

They haven't really gotten worse, but I will admit I used to be able to spot 1 or 2 up and comers on that list and I don't recognize anyone now. I think its a few things:

1) We've gotten older and grumpier
2) The Hideout used to be the only stadium event for adults and it used to be in the astrodome, that was cool. A tent just isn't the same.
3) The wine gardens pulls a lot of people. And is honestly, awesome.
4) Hideout is still packed on normal weekend times.

Good points. I agree with you.

Foo would def pack a stadium. I think their booking fee is still on the high end for the Rodeo's budget. Maybe in 5-10 more years if they are looking for a random one-off performance.

IDK, i'm not a booker nor an agent. But they are currently a band that can fill a stadium and charge more than what the rodeo does for tickets if they did their own tour. Rock bands/pop acts that can do that usually cost more than what the rodeo will pay.

Foo Fighters recently played at 713 and I think their capacity is just under 5,000. That doesn't necessarily scream stadium sellout IMO.

That was a one-off show. Check their tour lineup this year, mostly NFL stadiums

That was because they were headlining both weekends of ACL and their contract for that limits them doing big shows within so many miles of Austin for a set amount of weeks. Most headlines aren't allowed to do ANY shows in the area but they started allowing small venue exceptions.

Yeah, that seems incredibly small for Foo Fighters. They're like one of the last stadium rock bands.

Thinking about Dave trying to keep it family friendly cracks me up.

Saw Creed last summer on a work trip. I wasn't all that excited about going, but it ended up being a great show.

I suggest putting your pre-concieved notions aside and enjoying the show.

I don't get this flex.

In the contract the entertainers sign, one of the clauses is that they keep it family friendly. If you've ever seen the Foos in concert, about every third or fourth world from Dave is bleep worthy.

Some acts have previously signed the contract, then just gone on and f-bombed from stage, but they've never been invited back and lost some of their earnings in doing so.

Not a flex (?) in any way, I just don't see how Dave would agree to that.
