Newer dumber name isn't on there either, but they are playing Armadillo Palace tomorrow night.

For about twice what I paid to see them there the first time.

Real Ball Knowers know that this is the real HSLR lineup.

https://www.rodeohouston.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/2024_TheHideout_EntertainerCalendar.pdf

Mike in the Moonpies aren't on the lineup for the first time in forever.

Ideal HSLR rodeo day:
-Buy just a fairgrounds ticket
-Arrive at opening, go see the exhibits. I generally like seeing what giant trailers the FFA/4H/tech kids have welded up over the past year and are showing off.
-1PM at the latest: Proceed to outdoor wine venue. Sit in the area with the stage.
-Stay all day there listening to randos perform
-5PM go test out the massage chairs Mattress Firm/Gallery Furniture have set up. Take nap until sales person tells you to move.
-Go to the hideout when it opens.
-Shut the hideout down
-Take a ridiculously priced uber home.
-Brace for a rough sunday.

That's the Hideout lineup from 2024, this years hasn't been released yet. Like Chewy said, they used to get great bands and it was a lot of fun, but the lineups the past 10 years or so have been bad, you couldn't pay me to go in there now.

Thanks for the update.

Would I go to the rodeo on a random tuesday to see any of the hideout performers? No.

Will I keep the party going by stumbling into the hideout? Sure.

At some point, the hideout bands will get so bad and the uncorked lineup so good that you're just deciding if you want to drink inside a tent or outside a tent.

A mini-documentary on The Hideout would be awesome.

It's gone through some serious changes.

A lot of younger Red Dirt/Texas Country folks rolled through there in the late 90s and 2000s.

Got so big it was on the floor of the Dome.

Now it's just a shell of itself cast off in a corner with acts that people barely know.

That was pretty awesome when it was on the floor of the dome.

Spouse, huh? Suuuure...

Large black women aren't my thing. People watching will be 1000% awesome.

But she wants to go. She also wants to see Kelly Clarkson.

So if anyone is selling 2 tickets, I'm down.

~egon

PS - I'm not a scalper. Just want to buy 2 tickets.

Been wondering that too. Pepe has always been pretty popular, but people are pissed. And it's more than the usual "why isn't there a Tejano band on Tejano day" complaints. But they don't get that it is for Tejano people, not Tejano music.

It's definitely the "not Tejano" thing, based on comments I've read on various outlets.

It's a complaint that's been building for years.

And there's a new Tejano station in town that's all on that train.

No joke, Nickelback was the third highest attended concert in the 2024 lineup. I think playing into millennial teenage year bands is a winner, even if its a band most people like to poke fun on. Ironic attendance is still attendance.

I do think they have fully booked the Tier I 'butt of jokes' bands with Nickelback two years ago Creed this year. I'm trying to think what other big names could fill the same role.

Jimmy Eat World doing an old song only set would kill it but they weren't hated like Creed and Nickelback.

I'd love to see Jimmy Eat World do an old song only set, but they have never been big enough to be a headline act for the rodeo, even if its a nostalgia act. Almost every time they come through town they are the supporting act.

A man can dream.

But mostly I'm just out of ideas after Nickelback and Creed are going to be both be top tier historical performances for HLSR.

The only other 'brand' I could think of that was maligned as much as those two bands were is Dane Cook and I don't think that'd work as a musical act.

Hoobastank would like a word.

lol. Hoobastank isn't even close to being in the same league as nickleback and creed.

How is cookoff doing these days? I haven't been in several years. The old timers are getting old. My generation is busy with kids and the younger generation doesn't seem to be into the cookoff scene in the percentage that my generation is. Is it still going strong, or is there a tapering off? I want to hope it is still the same as always so my kids can experience it when they get much older. Are they going to have to have EDM acts in the tents or maybe hip hop to get the kids to come? Serious question, no snark or agenda.

Any thoughts on why they have let the quality of the Hideout acts digress over the years? Are they not trying, is there a different group of people deciding the acts, or are they pushing more people towards the Wine Garden?

It's as crowded as ever on Friday and Sat nights. If you want more low key go on Thursday. They've been bringing some really good acts to the main stage the past few years.

Thursdays have been jammed up too. 2024 set the all time record for attendance, and last year wasn't too far behind.

Cookoff is always a great time, can't wait for it to get here.

For a while there it seemed like the Hideout was bringing in better talent than the main stage was. They probably got their pee-pee slapped by somebody over that.

Or the Rodeo finally just decided to start getting better talent.

Only one rock band. For millennials. I guess most of the classic rock bands are dead, like, actually dead. We went to Journey last year. Hellacious traffic, awful over-priced food. 3 songs before the stage caught on fire. Got home at 1 a.m.

The only good part was that I bought my Final 4 tickets with my refund.

Ragweed could qualify as a nostalgia rock act. Creed definitely does.

No - The Eagles are one of the better country bands, but not on my bucket list. I would have rather seen Ronnie Milsap, the Oakridge Boys, Alabama, or The Statlers.

Never been a Stones fan. Hard to believe that Steel Wheels was before I started my freshman year, and they were over the hill then...36 years ago.

I would like this Rush tour, but I saw the original lineup in 2010. Man they were good. Played for 3+ hours.

I mean, I haven't checked who is still touring.

Heart? REO Speedwagon? Gin Blossoms? Def Leppard? Skillet? Euro night with Roxette and The Scorpions?

Honestly, I would go hear a good tribute band.

Oh, no doubt. Get 'em before they die. It's just that the 90's bands were so lifeless compared to what I grew up with. STP, Pearl Jam, Bush, Nirvana, Live...at least they still used guitars, as public sentiment had not turned totally against them yet. Blink 182, Weezer, and Jimmy Eat World were closer to the mark.

No doubt - and funny that the classic pop is interchangeable with what is made today. The stuff my kids listen to sounds just like Madonna, Belinda Carlisle, and Paula Abdul.

Holy crap. Based on the lineup, there will be some late 40s people having babies in late fall of 2026.

Hearing TLC perform No Scrubs AND being in proximity to Mark McGrath is pretty much instant panty dropper territory for 47-year-old Debby, Heather and Jennifer.

I went with a friend from school that we used to bump Ridin Dirty together on the mean streets of Crosby, and when I asked him to go to the 2nd one, he declined. His excuse was that the first one was legendary and he was sure we'd be disappointed, ruining the memory.
