The Sports Business Journal was the first to report the news.

As a consequence, the USSF will bring the task of selling items such as sponsorships and media rights in-house. While this will require increased staffing that will likely reach well into double digits, the USSF says now is the time to make this step and take over ownership of the commercial rights side of the business. Multiple sources with knowledge of the decision added that the plan is for the USSF and MLS to no longer bundle their rights together.

SUM was founded in 2002 after the fact that no English language broadcasters had bid for the rights to the 2006 and 2010 World Cups.

That's incredible.

And it hits me close to home. The 2010 WC was the first time I gave soccer a fair shake. On a boring Saturday I decided to go to a little Belgian-owned craft brewery near me to watch a match and I fell in love with the sport.

I will never forget going to work in downtown SF and had just gotten off Caltrain and stopped in one of the bars to check the score of the US vs Algeria match. It was in the 82' or so and stayed until Donovan's goal. The place went absolutely bonkers!

I'll be at the game tomorrow. I've been to the USMNT matches in CO going back a few years and was at the Snow Clasico back in 2013. First time seeing the USMNT at Mile High and hoping it's a good dress rehearsal for Denver and 2026 World Cup.

Looks like Charlie Davies and Onyewu? Charlie Davies was the one who had a bright little stretch as a winger for the USMNT but then got in a real bad car wreck and never really made it back. But kind of a fan favorite for a year and a half or so.

Gooch was a CB for about 7-8 years back in the mid-2000's and was a staple on the starting roster for a couple of world cups.

Davies was awesome. Big reason we almost pulled off the Confederations Cup in 2009 and I think we sorely missed him in the 2010 World Cup. I'm not sure we've seen someone with his speed since in the National Team.

Car accident definitely derailed his career and he was lucky to even return to playing. He also had cancer in 2016 to deal with and retired shortly after that.
