Agree that Luiz wasn't bad but he was effectively the same for us as he was for Chelsea the year before but Chelsea felt they had better options.

Willian & Sterling were free otherwise the fans would likely be worse right now.

Jorge was decent for us but he was basically a 31yo squadie that we paid 12m for

I don't know where y'all are buying those rose-tinted glasses, but Sideshow Bob was terrible. He averaged a red card every 13 games and gave away a penalty every 6.5 games while he was here. That is Mustafi/Squillaci levels of awful.

Go back and watch videos of those reds. Vast majority of them were BS.

Why does it matter where we get players from? I'm not saying you care, I'm just trying to understand.
A big part of the issue for me is that Chelsea is (was) actually in a difficult financial situation. They've exceeded the UEFA squad cost ratio which resulted in a fine and the inability to register players for Champions League next year unless they do 60 million pounds in player sales. So they're desperate to sell players. Every club knows they are desperate to sell. All you have to do, is be patient, wait until the end of the window, and then buy at cut rate prices.

What do Arsenal do? Snap up a player no other club was in for, at the beginning of July, for exactly the amount Chelsea requested which just so happens to be nearly double what they paid 2 years ago. We have completely bailed them out in a single swoop which seems almost suspicious in its incompetence.

Those reds were bad calls/unlucky and he was so much better than Mustafi. To me, he was a good stop gap while our club got its **** together in the front office.

We had Holding/chambers those years who were probably better options, but for some reason insisted on playing Luiz/Mari who were a crapshow.

He may be a rockstar for us but I think fans are getting tired of constantly going to Chelsea for players. There are 100s of club in Europe we could buy from and we keep buying from a direct competitor that is in FFP/PSR trouble. Add to that that we spent 50m on a player that they purchased for 30m and while he hasn't been bad he hasn't done anything to justify an additional 20m from us.

That said, some of the reaction is significantly overboard.

There are hundreds of clubs but only a few that are buying up tons of young, high profile players. And they're in the same city, same league, and willing to get rid of guys without a lot of fuss.

I personally don't think Arsenal needs to take it upon itself to worry about the financial situation of the other club.

It seems to be too early to judge this one way or another. Madueke is young, he isn't like most of the others from Chelsea. And we don't know what else we'll be able to get done this summer in the market.

Yeah, that's a pretty concerning statement from Sporting.

But Arsenal have to get the deal done. Arsenal should probably tell Gyokeres to get his ass back to Portugal ASAP

It's negotiation posturing. I'd recommend not reading too much into it.

Sporting lawyer is trying to intimidate Gyokeres for not showing up for preseason training. Suggested they could legally cancel his contract. He/Arsenal would be really upset by that.

Pressure's going to grow on Arsenal to adress some questions over this issue. That they knew charges might be coming before starting negotiations with Partey, that's a self-inflicted PR wound.

In my opinion, and I can easily be swayed to a different one, an employer is damned if they do and/or dont'. What is an employer supposed to do without direct knowledge of what happened? Fire or release the player immediately and then hope you didn't fire an innocent person and ruin their reputation. Or keep the player and deal with the "public outrage", which is most performative, in my opinion, by most people.

Earlier I am on record as probably having the club release him but I don't think that was the correct action.

I don't know enough to know if he should have kept playing while under contract. I think the bigger question right now is why did the club try to re-sign him and not just allow his contact to end and move on.

This feels the same as Ray Rice and probably others in the NFL. The club is about winning and when he hasn't been charged with anything, you keep playing him / work to sign a new contract if it makes sense. When he gets charged, then you part ways

I don't see a major issue here outside of him probably being a huge *******

And if he starts to suck, it's an easy way to release him without pay

It's posturing. It might also be true Sporting is sincerely pissed off, rightly or wrongly, and it will contribute to slowing down the deal. Arsenal really need to get this done sooner rather than later, this is a win now signing and we don't have time at the beginning of the year to get Gyokeres up to speed

I think us going on preseason is the reason we seem to be quickly making moves. Arteta and the club want these guys in as soon as possible so we can get the system down. We can't afford a slow start with big games to start the year. Get VG and another attacker in and let's go to work

Think we see a focus on sales in the near future. Gotta offload OZ, Vieira, Sambi & Nelson. Add Trossard & Kiwior to the list for the right offer.

Arsenal are working to complete a deal to sign Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera.

Personal terms are in place with the 21-year-old and the two clubs are close to reaching an agreement.

Mosquera made 41 appearances last season, featuring in 37 of Valencia's 38 La Liga games, and also featured in three of Spain's four games at the under-21 European Championship this summer.

Arsenal see Mosquera as ideal cover for first-choice centre-back pairing Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba. They previously looked at Dean Huijsen before he left Bournemouth for Real Madrid earlier this summer.

Saliba (51 appearances last season) and Gabriel (42) played the majority of games in central defence last term with Jakub Kiwior, Jurrien Timber, Ben White and Riccardo Calafiori the backup options.

Yeah. I appreciate getting more news/info but they're all just repackaging "talks ongoing" 1000 different ways these days. Latest update from Romano: They're still negotiating.

I realize it is not Arsenal, but Newcastle offering north of 80million euros for Ekitike.
