I think Barcola is so underrated. I know he's had his struggles with finishing, but he's also been on a team where if you're struggling you'll just get replaced by some other 21 year old future superstar. He's never been allowed to work through his issues. I think if you let him play every day we would be shocked at the numbers he'd put up. His pace, size, etc. is elite.

No one is going to be remotely "affordable"

Per Ben Jacobs LFC are still in the market for another attacker/winger in addition to Victor Munoz. We all knew this.

Yan Diomande is still target 1, but due to competition with PSG and Leipzig's asking price, they have other targets as well, with out and out pace being the key criteria.

Also on the list are Koln's Said El Mala, Brighton's Yankuba Minteh and Lille's Matias Fernandez-Pardo, along with the continued Mention of PSG's Bradley Barcola, although the Barcola situation would only happen IF PSG land Diomande. If they do not get Diomande Barcola probably isn't leaving.

Sorry for blowing this group up but a lot seems to be happening with transfers over the last 24 hours or so:

Per David Ornstein now, LFC have expressed a willingness to put forward a 100 million euro bid for Yan Diomande, which is an improvement on a previous proposal to Leipzig.

I wonder if we are nearing the top of the market for what really anyone would be willing to pay. He's as talented as can be but he's still also very unproven and a good sized risk at that price tag. People might point to Wirtz or Isak, and they wouldn't be wrong, but Wirtz was 22 and widely regarded as perhaps the best attacking midfield threat on the planet and had been doing it in the Bundesliga for the better part of almost three years. Isak is older than that and we all know his pedigree. So 100 million euro bid all together is a whole freaking chunk of change for a 19 year old with as little big boy league experience as he has.

Gakpo is a good player that is in the wrong system and/or being misused.

Gravenberch has been one of the players of the tournament for me. He's been elite. And Gakpo showed what he was about.

I will say I don't love that Diomande seems to be better at and prefer the LW. Not a huge deal but something to note.

Leipzig are really playing hardball with Diomande, and personally I'm not sure what Liverpool should do.

Paying 110-120 million for a 19 year old winger who still has plenty of growth yet to do just seems insane to me. Would it not be better to split that money up into two wingers and a midfielder? I think Diomande has world class level potential but man these fees are preposterous.

ETA: I am not upset, disappointed or turned off by Diomande after the Germany game either. Could not care less how he looked in that one specific game. Just overall assessment of cost, preferred position (appears to be LW), squad depth with forwards, etc.

I agree. We're not spending $300m again this summer and need to buy 4-6 players. $100+ is a ton for a 19 year old in that situation. Even if he is the second coming.

It's fake, but Newcastle might actually commit a terroristic attack on Anfield if it were true.

Fabrizio reporting that Diomande prefers PSG over Liverpool.

At least we got clarity and don't have to spend 120M

Saved us from ourselves …can get at least 2 high end players ….but who? Barcola in play but for $100M??

I think PSG are just playing hardball. I really like Barcola but there's no way he's a 100M player right now. Doesn't have skins on the wall imo. Try to get him for 85 and call it a day.

Respectfully disagree. Barcola is one of the pound for pound fastest players on the planet who runs channels extremely well. He's also a really well put together guy physically being 6', can jump, dribble etc. The only negative so far im his career has been finishing, which I think has been slightly overrated due to who hes been playing for and with.

Both are left sided players who cut in.

Both are tall, athletic and like to attack the far post on crosses.

Whether or not you find them similar, you certainly can't play them together. I see no point in selling Gakpo and then paying more for BB. We need to prioritize emerging talent, not expensive superstars. I'd prefer we find 2 or 3 lesser known players than splurge on one big free agent acquisition. We have too many holes to repeat last year's summer transfer window.
Tksymm7

Oh I definitely agree on that. No arguments here. What I think is going to happen is one of the wingers we are purchasing is going to be converted into a RW. Heck even Diomande would be a LW being converted to RW.

I like you also agree that we need to use our money better this time around. However, we also do need some bona fide players, especially on the wing.

I would continue with Barcola, then look at Rayan and El Mala. I absolutely like the idea of getting younger, but we are LFC as well and need some guys who are ready to help here and now.

I'd add Summerville to the list as well, and he plays out and out RW/RM. I think he had a great tournament, fits the profile, has EPL experience, and wouldn't cost an arm and a leg (but still probably 60-70M.

You can thank Man City again for that. The Elliot Anderson has set the market for the summer. A young player with one good season shouldn't be going for 120m. We all now get to deal with every above average player being considered a 100m player.
Tksymm7
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Absolutely. I would also add that I think there's a growing sense of clubs wanting to retain their players, especially guys under 21. I really think it's going to take $120+ million to pry Diomande from Leipzig this window, and same could probably be said for Antonio Nusa, also at Leipzig. Lille is going to have to be blown away with an offer of maybe $80M to let Bouaddi leave. The list goes on and on imo with players like Rayan (Bournemouth), Yildiz (Juventes), Paz (Como) etc. These guy's clubs are not letting them leave unless the offers on the table are outrageous.

And honestly I am fine with it. I think some of these clubs who play pipeline for the top tier of football are kind of over it and will demand astronomical fees for their players moving forward. Because who's to say that if RB Leipzig keep Diomande, Nusa, Openda, Lukeba, Quedrago etc., being a year older, cannot push Bayern hard in the league?

From the Liverpool perspective the work begins though.

Just to clarify something about Diomande - he's almost always an inverted right winger for Leipzig. Ivory Coast are using him in a different way.

Also, I'll add… Leipzig are in a weird place this summer. They sacked their manager despite him getting them back into UCL qualification… and rumors are that it was a Klopp vs. the board decision where the board ultimately caved and let Klopp sack him. Not sure what this mess at the top means for transfers, but nothing will surprise me at this point.

If there was any shred of truth to mutual interest with Olise last summer, we should have gone all in. What a player he is.
