Really happy to win this game, but I sure would like to prevent the last 20 minutes being so interesting. We completely lost any semblance of formation and had no interest in just possessing the ball and making it difficult for them to reclaim it. Goal kicks were just bombed down the field. Drives me crazy that we don't value possession with a two goal lead late in the game.

Cue old man yelling at clouds.

It does reset after the group stage, but if you accumulate 2 during the 3rd game of group, you've already gotten your 1 game suspension before it resets

First half Aussies weren't interested in pressing. They played for counters which allowed us to build from the back and keep recycling and keep possession. Second half Aussies had to start pressing together and we could not build from the back to save our lives. Look for all future opponents to show us a high press from here on out, IMO.

Announcer was right and you are wrong/misunderstanding. Your suspension can carry over, a yellow from groups are doesn't.

Two yellows in group? Suspended for next game.
One yellow and group and one in first knockout? No suspension.

Even if Turkey wins by just one or two goals, it's effectively over. They'd have to beat us by 3+ goals to win out on goal differential at that point, which is nearly impossible to do against a team of equal or superior quality when they know all they have to do is keep you from scoring too much.

Turkey pretty much has to blow out Paraguay tonight to have any chance.

Yep. I hate watching us sink back and play so defensive. Against Australia, which is a very defensive team, it was likely the right call, but I always feel like that style is ripe for giving up a cheap goal....and then it's hard to flip the switch back on.

Hard to complain too much after winning 2-0 though...so I'll take it.

That's horrible. I'll go with Fotmob, who say the worst players were Balogun and Pepi, but even they weren't bad (6.6 and 6.7)

There are only 4 other groups where it is mathematically possible to finish 3rd with 6 points; 8 3rd place sides go through, so we're in.
