Not over yet though.

Not at all. I just want the Mariners to lose, don't care if it's LA who does it. We all know LA paid for it anyway.

There is a part of me that wants LA to win the next several WS in dominant fashion to force MLB to face the reality that the CBT is not enough. Their payroll when you include deferred money is close to double the rest of the league outside of the mets and Yankees. That is not healthy for the game long term.

There is a part of me that wants LA to win the next several WS in dominant fashion to force MLB to face the reality that the CBT is not enough. Their oayrool when you include deferred money is close to double the rest of the league outside of the mets and Yankees. That is not healthy for the game long term.

MLB doesn't care about what is "healthy for the game". They care about eyeballs on TV, and LA and NY teams bring the most of that. So as long as those teams are among the "best" and in the playoffs, absolutely nothing will change re: the CBT/payroll rules, etc.

I slightly disagree. I agree that all they care about is money and eyeballs and the NY and LA teams bring the majority.

But I think everyone realizes if LA is just buying tiles and competition dwindles, viewership will decrease. Both because those LA fans get bored and the combined fans of smaller market teams stop caring.

The AL is gonna have Toronto or Seattle, not exactly blue bloods. With the new playoffs other teams can win. It's really only a problem for a couple teams like Pittsburg who aren't even trying.

That's pretty good for a third baseman playing right field.

Cole, Trammel, and Sanchez are platoon players. That's what stands out most to me.

It seems like a majority of the Astros players had reverse splits last year.

Also -- 38 trips to the IL -- YEESH!

2,005 games lost to injury.

Dubon is a finalist for the UTL Gold Glove. He should win it easily IMO. The # of positions and outstanding defensive metrics make it an easy choice.

What doesn't make much sense is no Pena at SS. Bobby should and will win the GG for SS. After that, Pena should be next, yet somehow he's behind both Seager & Walls.

We saw lefties so infrequently it was probably like trying to hit a submarine throwing reliever when they saw a lefty this year.

Seager should never be on that list…has no range at all. He's a future first baseman.

Guess I'm surprised Paredes is not in that mix for third as much as Joe says he has "gold glove level" defense.

I don't know how much of an impact Cintron and Snitker actually had. In general, I am not that sure any hitting coach has a major impact on just how well a team hits. This feels more like someone's head has to roll after missing the postseason.

Completely agree. That said - I don't think it hurts to get a couple fresh faces in the building.

I think a lot of folks are frustrated and want to point fingers and blame someone for missing the postseason. I am NOT saying folks are without fault.

I do think with just average injury luck this year we win 95 games and are extremely happy. I think the majority of shortcomings are a result of that. I know it's not a fun reality to accept but I think it's really the main culprit.

But again - I don't think it hurts to get some fresh faces in the building. I just hope everything is getting properly evaluated and we just aren't letting people go because someone's head has to roll like you said.

I was told on pretty good authority that there was a lot of tension on the coaching staff, especially in the 2nd half of the season, and that Espada was not exactly viewed in the highest regard by many on the staff, especially by several of the guys who are now gone. You know anything about this?

He does not. He did, however, surprise everyone with solid defense at third after being thought of as avg to below avg defensively.

Love the sarcasm.

I'm with others who hope if the Brewers and Jays don't make it that the Dodgers beat the Mariners.

At least we know the Dodgers paid for a title.

Happier times 3 years ago when the Mariners knew their place.

If it weren't for historic injuries this year -- they'd still be in their place.

Bregman electing free agency may be relevant to us in regards to trading with the Red Sox. If we can't move CW then Paredes to the Red Sox makes a lot of sense. Perfect fit for that stadium. They also have a great farm system.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention that my childhood ended today in 1986.

I've watched versions of this game way too much. My one takeaway if you choose to watch this condensed version is that Rafael Santana was an incredibly bad shortstop.

No such thing as a "highlight" from that game. Most heart breaking loss I can remember from my childhood. Worse than the Bills/Oiler debacle IMO.

Hatcher's HR is a highlight.

The first time I played a home video game that featured 86 Astros v 86 Mets, I threw at every single Met in the lineup to get out a lot of pent-up anger

and definitely the worse. Oilers would have had to win 2 more games on the road to get to the SB. Astros were a win away from Mike Scott at home for game 7

Watching how far into the heads of the Mets hitters he was with that split finger was a thing of beauty.

Well between 1986 and 2022, October 15th is definitely a "best of times and worst of times" for Astros fans. And as an 8th grader, I can still remember exactly where I was and who I was with listening to the radio for all those extra innings in 1986. Just crushing.
