I've watched versions of this game way too much. My one takeaway if you choose to watch this condensed version is that Rafael Santana was an incredibly bad shortstop.





I cut class at A&M that day as my friends dad had tickets. We stayed for the entire 16 innings and it was a miserable drive back to College Station that evening.

I vowed to never attend an Astros playoff game; and I have kept that promise. I could never forgive my sports karma if I went to a playoff game and we lost. Again.

Framber Valdez is likely to get one.
He is also likely to turn it down and go into free agency.
If Framber Valdez signs elsewhere, the Astros would receive a draft pick between the 4th and 5th round.

I figured it would be a higher pick than that.

Also, are we eligible for the draft lottery this year? Or are only certain teams included in it? Since we've never been out of the playoffs since the lottery started, I have no clue how it works.

Jason Lane homers and Morgan Ensberg hits the decisive sacrifice fly to nip the Cardinals, 2-1, giving Houston a 3-1 edge in the N.L.C.S. Brandon Backe and four relievers hold St. Louis to just five hits. Frustrations spill over for the Redbirds as skipper Tony LaRussa and slugger Jim Edmonds are ejected for arguing pitches with home plate umpire Phil Cuzzi. Sparkling defense ends the ninth when Eric Bruntlett and Adam Everett turn a double play on John Mabry's roller.

As I've said many times, I was at this game, and I will go to my grave believing John Mabry is the slowest person who has ever lived for not beating out this double play.

This game was also vintage Brandon Backe, struggles to go .500 in the regular season, turns into Bob Gibson in the playoffs. Backe had a career 2.95 ERA in 36 innings pitched in the playoffs in 2004-2005, and a career 5.16 ERA in 7 regular seasons with the Astros. In this game he went 5-2/3, 1 ER, 7 K.

Something I've noticed on Space City Network broadcasts is sometimes TK's play call is just a hair before you see the result on the screen. I've noticed it mostly on strikeouts. On a called third strike, TK will say something like "He got him!" a split second before the umpire makes the call. It's very quick and sublte, and at first I just thought I was crazy, but this discussion has me thinking otherwise.

That is probably just bad syncing on the voice to video delay that they put in place to drop out cuss words in case a player or somebody else is audible on the broadcast. I know the MLB gameday live tracker online is usually slightly ahead of the tv and radio broadcasts.

I have noticed that this season they cut to and back from commercial breaks as TK or Blum are talking.

They're squeezing every second of ad space out of these broadcasts and they cut out too soon and come back too late.

Sometimes they're coming back after the first pitch of the AB is thrown. Drives me nuts.
