Metallica spoiled people.
even then, they've only done this no repeat stuff the last 6-8 years or so I think.maroon barchetta said:

The biggest difference between doing a double show in a city with a few songs swapped out and doing the same at this Dominican resort festival is there wasn't an option for a single day ticket. Everyone who is there paid the price for all 3 days. I know they never advertised "no-repeats" but talk about ****ting on some die hard fans to play almost half your set the same as when they just saw you 2 nights earlier with the exact same audience as then.62strat said:even then, they've only done this no repeat stuff the last 6-8 years or so I think.maroon barchetta said:

They have done plenty of double shows in cities with just a few songs swapped out. They were never a pearl jam or dave matthews..

Got tickets for Dwight Yoakam and The Mavericks May 16th in Las Cruces.
Also hoping to catch Ghost when they play in Ft Worth in August.
I went and it was awesome. I've been around Tool enough to know they have a rigid set list and Maynard doesn't want to stretch his voice. The thought was always there that they would repeat songs and I'll be honest and admit I was disappointed when they started night 2 with the same song. After that song he mentioned this would be an alternate set. From there there were repeats but also different songs than the night before. They performed all songs with the same showmanship you would come to expect and they didn't 'mail in' their performance. So any live Tool is good in my book.62strat said:
I don't know.. I guess I've seen Tool plenty enough times and tracked their setlist enough times that a typical double show will repeat all but 2-3 songs. I would think a person in this audience is a diehard fan and would expect.
I've yet to see any publication/advertisement that they would have a 'no repeat weekend'.. the key buzzword that metallica has used successfully for 5 years now. I've seen 'two Tool headline shows', 'two unique shows'.. those are pretty vague phrases. I'd argue both shows were definitely unique, when else have you seen tool on the beach in the Caribbean.. or any beach? That is unique for sure.
This crowd got 15 unique songs; Their 2024 tour was 11 songs most nights. So with two 11 song sets of no repeat, you'd get 22. So, ok, they got jipped a few.
They could have payed the 80 min new album on one night which is only 7 songs. Then night two you get 11, so that's only 18. Now they are only 3 off. Would that have really been that different?
And let's not forget, this wasn't just two tool shows. It was a full blown festival. Several other big names, including another headliner on night 3. Festivals are expensive. Festivals on the beach in the Caribbean island are real expensive.
Big Mike is awesome! I've strangely never seen him live but watched a bunch of his live streams during covid as well as some streams of he and Chris doing live gigs at Lola's.Echoes97 said:That's awesome, I'm good friends w/ Mike Richardson (and several of his musical people) up there. Met Chris several times, and seen him play with his Doors tribute, Who tribute, and some others. Also enjoyed his live streams during Covid. Pretty amazing that he's now on stage w/ the Eagles!johnnyblaze36 said:
Not to humblebrag here but I got invited to a party in Arlington last night scheduled for March 22nd featuring Christopher Holt.
Pretty crazy that he's going from playing all these shows at the Sphere with the Eagles to doing a house party indoors for 35 people. Can't wait.
That sounds like a killer reception! Much better than the ones I'm typically used to attending that always seem to start out with a DJ playing "September" without fail (although I do love that song and band).Proposition Joe said:
I didn't realize Holt was playing with The Eagles, that's crazy. I knew he had a history with Henley, but that's still a big jump.
Big Mike did our wedding reception... My only regret is that I had to spend time socializing instead of listening to him jam

If you haven't seen The Mavericks before you're in for a treat. I saw them last year in Prescott with Dwight, and they were fantastic. Dwight was good as well, but less of a showman, at least that night.
As the band Journey was singing "Don't Stop Believin" at Rodeo Houston Friday, the speakers suddenly stopped working. Shortly afterwards, the announcer said the rest of the show was canceled because of an electrical fire.
