That sounds badass, wish I could make. Never seen them but what I've heard is great. Looks like they will be in NOLA this weekend. Might need to make the trip from Houston...
They are live streaming from the Fillmore NOLA tonight "free" on nugs.net for subscribers as well as tomorrow at 9 PM central I watched all three NOLA Fillmore shows last year surrounding Jazzfest and they were amazing.

Last night was absolutely incredible. My first time in the Mezzanine at ACL Live and ended up front row for most of the second set. I couldn't believe how packed the entire floor was.

My buddy I went with actually has a GD tattoo and wasn't even familiar with JRAD really or even know what to expect other than a "Dead cover band". Needless to say he got his head blown off.

Another friend of mine who I went to Fare Thee Well with ten years ago and that I've seen Dead and Company with a few times watched the stream last night and made such the bold claim that he decided "they are the best band to ever play the Dead. And that includes the Dead".

Certainly make the trip if you can even if it's just for tomorrow night's show! You'll not be disappointed.

ETA: Not sure why I threw in Aaron from Disco Biscuits in my previous post. Got confused with him being in Billy and the Kids Dead tribute band fronted by Bill Kreutzman.

About Sammy Hagar and encores: the last time I saw him, he got to the end of the show and explained to the enthusiastic crowd that he could leave the stage, leave the house light off, wait for us to get all excited, then come back and play two more songs. Instead of wasting that time, he said I'm just gonna play them right now. He was being real and honest. The crowd appreciated it. Sammy Hagar is awesome.

I don't have a problem with it. Darryl Hall did the same thing at his last show but I didn't hear Sammy say he wasn't doing an encore so I was surprised when it didn't happen.

I enjoyed the Hagar Van Halen Tribute concert last summer. Love Satriani! Going to see Billy Idol/Joan Jett in Woodlands tonight. Joan is my bucket list and really loved Idol since Generation X.

It was packed. I don't know any numbers but every seat was full and the whole back lawn area was jammed packed. Was loud and full from start to finish. Joan was so good. I knew she was a big rocker but she was a beast!

We saw her with the Def Leppard/Motley Crue stadium tour in Chicago a couple of years ago, and after all the years, she's still got it.

Just got settled after seeing Kenny Wayne Shepherd tonight. Dude can play the crud out of a guitar. That light blue Strat he played in the second set is going to need extensive therapy after what he did to it. Geez. He got a standing ovation during the middle of the song.

Billy Idol was awesome. Joan Jett was good but I won't miss another Billy Idol show.

And he's 69 y/o. The energy, professionalism, etc.

I hadn't been to The Woodlands in a while but I will say that overall, that's a well run venue. The place was full but it never felt overcrowded. Concessions were decent.

Going to Sammy's last Vegas show weekend after next. I hope he includes Best of BW, Summer Nights, and Amsterdam.

Amsterdam is one of my favorite EVH riffs after Drop Dead Legs. There's video of him playing it in the studio back in the mid 80's on the 5150 guitar.
Staff - take out the trash.

I agree, I'll keep checking shows coming to that venue. I got a parking pass in the Gold Lot for like 45 bucks. I was 30 yards from the entrance. It took me no time to get to the lot and and getting out of the parking garage was a piece of cake! Totally worth it! The venue was excellent. Made me think we could tweak Wolfpen in C.S. and do something more like this! HAHA

Only got 2 concerts on tap this year.

Brand New at NRG Arena (yuck.. why NRG)
Parkway Drive and the Summer of Loud tour at Cynthia Woods.

Looking forward to both other than venue. I prefer outdoor shows. Especially for rock concerts.

Been going to Cynthia Woods since it opened in '90 and I think Billy Idol/Joan Jett was the best concert weather I've ever experienced. Joan Jett was incredible and Billy Idol was just off the charts good. I'm a big setlist critic and wasn't happy when I saw he was doing 5 songs from his new album, but they were all fantastic; classic sounding Billy Idol. Steve Stevens is still as good as ever. Capacity at the Pavillion is 16.5K, I would say crowd was at least 15K. Ever since concerts started up after covid, this place has just been packed for everything, with a ton of sell outs last summer, which used to not be a thing there. Just a great show to kick off my summer concert season. Next up, Tedeschi Trucks Band on Saturday, never seen them live, should be awesome.

I like The Woodlands Pavillion as a venue. The volume used to be much louder in the lawn before all the apartments got built. But now that I'm older, I don't mind that my ears don't ring after a show ends. My biggest complaint is that its all the way out in The Woodlands. My second biggest complaint is that so much of their concert season is in the heart of our 8 month long summer humid heat season. I guess its unavoidable. I'm still scarred from going to a show there 2 summers ago when we were in the middle of a terrible heat wave and temps didnt get below 90 until 10 pm.

I cut my teeth on concerts at the woodlands, including my first concert in 1993.. I hated how all the shows were in summer just like you. I lived near Tomball, so the drive wasn't bad, but I was never really that excited when a band I liked would come through town and it was June-Sept at the pavillion. Especially when they would be playing smaller venues in other towns, but then come through Houston and play the buzzfest.

Now in Denver, I'm like 10 miles from Fiddler's Green, which is about the exact same venue. No doubt, having cool summer evenings up here makes summer concerts so much more enjoyable, and I prefer it now to the arena for sure, which can take an hour to get to and park if it's a weekday evening.

Weather was fantastic and Tweedy was fairly cheerful (for him).

Joan Jett was on fire last night in Austin! She and the Blackhearts played for an hour - it was really, really good. I mean headliner good. "I Hate Myself for Loving You" brought the house down! Just incredible - her voice was great and the energy they brought was nuts. I could have left at the end of that set and been a happy camper.

Then Billy Idol took the stage. Wow! Last time I saw him in concert was 1984. He still rocks! New music, classic Idol, and even a Generation X song (Ready! Steady! Go!). The rendition of Blue Highway was money. Steve Stevens can still shred with the best of 'em. Just super impressed! With so much to choose from - I think it was a great set. Still would have liked to hear more Generation X.

Certainly got our money's worth from that show! More, more, more!

I haven't seen Kenny Wayne in years. I saw him the first time when he opened Blues Fest at Starplex in Dallas in '94 or so. He was 19 and blew everyone away.

I'd like to go see him again so I'll check out his schedule.

Only downside was it's a long commute from where I live in Galveston but... the 1/2 tank of gas I burned is my choice.

Time wise, it would have only taken another 20 minutes to get to College Station (not on a game day).

My first concert there was Van Halen in August 1993. I think Vince Neil opened.
I saw Pitbull there in 2022 and bought the parking (I was still living in LA then).

I have to say that a couple of the new Billy Idol songs were actually good and were well received by the crowd.

Contrast that with the REK concert I went to at the Houston House of Blues back in December where he tried doing a campfire acoustic thing and everybody just talked over what they were doing (it was kind of embarrassing).

For as much of a pain in the butt it was getting out there at times, I've seen some pretty epic shows at CWMP. Off the top of my head these stand out:

Foo Fighters/Weezer ('05)
Radiohead ('01, '03, '08)

Seemed like Radiohead always made it a point to hit Houston on their tours, but they played Toyota Center last time which I skipped. I usually prefer open air amphitheaters to arenas.

Could also be the time of year that they're on tour.

Way back in the 1990s, I saw Rush at The Summit in late 1996 and then at CWMP in summer 1997.
The Internet tells me that was December 5th 1996 and May 25th 1997.
