Yes, but ACL does not have Dead and Co, Billy Strings, Sturgill Simpson, and Trey Anastasio and instead has Hozier, Sabrina Carpenter, and Doja Cat as the three main headliners.

You get what you pay for I suppose.

Finally recovered from EDC last weekend. Pretty wild time. First time going - getting tickets for next year today lol

Saw lots of artists I wanted to see, missed a bunch of others. Its amazing how fast 3 nights can fly by. We were there from around 8 pm to 4-5 am each day.

Got to see most of the sets for Andromedik, Andy C, Alesso, Dom Dolla, Afrojack, Eric Prydz, Isoknock, Kaskade, I Hate Models, Martin Garrix, Armin Van Buren, Miss Monique, and Tiesto's second (sunrise) set. Saw partial sets for a bunch of others.

One of their official recap videos:

Doing Bottlerock in Napa tonight and tomorrow. Tonight's headliner is Green Day, with Sublime, Public Enemy, Kaskade, and Beach Bunny, and others.

Tomorrow is Justin Timberlake, Benson Boone, Ice Cube, 4 Non Blondes, Sharon Van Etten, G Love, and a host of others.

Got to finally see The Melvins for the second time last night. Two drummers, and Buzz was in rare form. Outstanding show from the front row. Followed by Napalm Death for me after being a quasi fan since high school. So was cool to see them live finally. Barney delivered as well. Also another nostalgic treat by seeing The Hard-Ons as the opening band. Legendary Australian punk band that is is known as the most Australian Band ever. Absolute one of the best nights of live music in for ever.

Saw Guns and Roses last night in Riyadh, KSA.

The band was great and the crowd was really responsive. The venue is new so they still have a few kinks to work out (merch sales was a disaster).

I cannot believe Rock concerts like this are happening in modern Saudi Arabia. It's amazing.

when they first came out, the mix was off and the vocals were too low. But they fixed that quickly and the rest of the show was great.

GNR absolutely delivered

Saw Ryan Adams play (mostly) solo for the first time last weekend. Great show overall with Heights Theater being a perfect venue for this kinda tour. He ranted a bit too much and could've played a few more songs instead, but he's still great when locked in. Not many artists can silence an audience quickly with a harmonica and some guitar chords like he can.

I was there too. He did have a few pointless rants, but based on some of the reviews from Europe, we caught a break.

He was actually in a great mood (for Ryan). The show was a lot of fun.

Yep, he seemed to like the venue/crowd a lot. I was expecting banter based on the shows I've seen him with a full band, and he can be hilarious at times.

I could've heard just the covers and a handful of other tunes and been happy. I doubt an artist ever has covered ZZ Top and Geto Boys in the same show before.

Now that I've had a chance to review a few of the videos posted online from the GNR show in Riyadh last Friday, I found a fan video with me in it.

This guy was sitting very close to where I was sitting and as he swings his camera around to the left, I can see my right forearm around the 6:20 mark and I'm pretty sure I can make out my Aggie Ring on my right hand.

Just kind of made me happy that there's video proof on YouTube of me being at the show.

Saw Simple Minds at Moody Center last night.

Modern English was the first opening act. Only caught about 1/2 their set. What I caught was really, really good. "I'll Melt with You" still sounds great. Wish they had played more.

Next up was Soft Cell. I thought they were horrendous. Marc Almond no longer sings very well - which he kind of needs to cause it was just him, back up singers, and David Ball on the synthesizers. The music did not fit the venue at all - the venue swallowed up the music (even though it was still loud, if that makes sense). They closed with Tainted Love and it only sounded ok - but it was still fun. They didn't even play Sex Dwarf. Lame.

Simple Minds played a really great set. Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill still sound great. Their drummer, Cherisse Osei, is a beast. She was incredible. Sarah Brown on backing vocals was really good, too. They played a lot of songs off Once Upon a Time. The set included I Travel (apparently a tour debut) and New Gold Dream (apparently they don't play it very often). Jim Kerr has the desire, still sings well, and really engages the audience; but he doesn't have the stamina. Don't You Forget About Me reminds you the 80s were awesome and the audience participation during the song was excellent.

Overall it was a fun concert.

Just returned from Metallica at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte:
  • I used public transportation. I don't feel great about it, but $6.60 for light rail beats $80 for venue parking.
  • Suicidal Tendencies went on at ~6pm - they had good energy, but were playing to a half empty venue. I wasn't familiar with a ton of their stuff, but they were good enough - probably the best LA Mexican Skater Metal band I've ever heard.
  • Pantera went on at ~7pm. I was surprised at how good Phil sounded at this stage of his career. They played all the songs you'd expect, except for Cemetery Gates (they did a pre-recorded interlude of it with pictures of Vinnie and Dime on the monitors, which was nice). Finished up with Walk and Cowboys from Hell, of course.
  • Metallica took their sweet time and didn't start until ~9pm. They were great, as expected - played a couple of tracks from 72 Seasons and a bunch of their hits, as well as a section midway through where Kirk and Robert did some noodling while James and Lars took a break. Highlights were probably Creeping Death, Ride the Lightning, and Seek & Destroy.
  • Stage setup was a hollow circle with the VIP floor seats in the middle. Allowed all the acts to circle around the stage so everyone on the floor could get a look; I think Pantera had two drum kits set up, and Lars had at least three or four.
  • I saw: two or three people pass out, one dude puke all over himself, an old guy try to fight a fat long-haired Mexican, and the counter-sniper setup. I was also on the edge of some desultory attempts at moshing, got a drink spilled on me, and had a dude slap my back in an attempt at camaraderie. He said he worked for Toyota.
  • I am too ****ing old for floor seats.

Now that I'm home, I will add a few things:

1. Modern English was the opener, then Soft Cell. They probably should have been swapped.

2. I sat on the lawn at Cynthia Woods, and Simple Minds' lead singer seemed to do well. His voice is still great. Maybe closer up would have made his lack of stamina more noticeable. He did have a couple of breaks.

3. If you're a casual fan of all three bands, you probably know "I Melt With You," "Tainted Love" and "Don't You (Forget About Me)." All three were performed as crowd engagement sing-alongs, at least in part. It's probably not a big deal to most folks, but I'm personally not a fan.

Anyway, overall it was a great show. Definitely recommended if you like the bands.

I am not a Pantera fan but Cemetery Gates is epic. I would be really annoyed if I paid for a ticket and didn't see that epic masterpiece.

unfortunately that song hasn't been a regular part of a tour setlist after 1992.

Which date? I saw videos of the Billy sit in with Primus a few nights ago.

Also found out Friday night that Billy is not doing a NYE run this year or next which punched me in the gut so hard as he was about to take the stage in Grand Rapids.

For those who care about such things -- apparently a big ticket law trying to quietly be passed in New York which will strip away most of the consumer protections that exist and give the majority of the power to Ticketmaster. It's framed as a way to curb resale, but the actual verbiage in the bill is very obviously intended to squeeze out secondary marketplaces like Stubhub and give Ticketmaster complete control over if you can sell your tickets and at what price.

Just in NY for now, but will trickle down to the other states if passed: https://www.protectnyconsumers.com/
