"Frankenstein" is the biggest surprise to me. Maybe they're just throwing a bone to netflix
I thought Frankenstein was great, RT would agree with 85 critic/94 audience score.

Beautifully shot and I love how intentional every frame was, great performances too.

I haven't seen a majority of the nominated movies but was Benicio Del Toro's acting in One Battle After Another really worthy of a Best Supporting Actor nomination?

Well, his was the only remotely likeable character in the whole movie...

To me, this 100% was the most overrated movie of the year.

I definitely didn't fall asleep but the pacing was my main complaint. It felt bloated, like a lot of shots and scenes should have been shorter. And once it set up the chess pieces for the final showdown it took a LONG time to get to the finale instead of just moving along.

I usually don't get to movies until late at night on the weekends because sports is on during the day. now that college football is over, I'll put in a valiant effort to watch it.

I can't even properly communicate to anyone under about 50 what a big deal this would be for some people.

Michael B Jordan wins the SAG award for Best Actor. Is he now the favorite for the Oscar?

Back in the mix again for sure. I think Timmy campaigned too close to the sun.

It will be MBJ, Timmy or Leo is still in the mix too.

To me it feels like a "give MBJ the SAG since Chalamet will win the Oscar" type thing.

Hoping this is correct. I know Chalamet has a long career ahead of him but it would be cool to see him win the Oscar at 30.

Between the BAFTA and SAG losses in one week I think Timmy has taken a hit. I still think he pulls it out.

I just hope OBAA and Anderson still win. Sinners as Best Picture would be a disappointment IMHO.

I liked Sinners and thought Jordan was good in it, but not Oscar worthy. Chalamet's performance in Marty Supreme was in a whole other stratosphere. If Jordan wins it's just one more piece of evidence that the Oscars aren't awarded simply based on the most deserving but rather based on whoever the cliques in hollywood decide they want to win.

I found it kind of odd the reaction to Jordan winning the SAG. Not sure how to put it into words but people seemed almost TOO excited. For instance, there is a clip of Amy Madigan reacting to learning he won and she is very excited. It made me think "Geez, do people hate Chalamet that much?" Like if I was the heavy favorite, then someone else won and the crowd had THAT reaction I would feel like people didn't like me.

Sinners isn't even one of the top 3 vampire movies. It's not BAD, but, if it starts racking up award after award at the Oscars it'll be due to "politics", plain and simple. And when Sinners starts winning categories like 'Set Design' when half the movie was shot on one set, you'll know that "politics" are back at it....

Sinners isn't winning awards because of its politics. That feels like a lazy take, and isn't informed.

The movie that really has steam because of its politics is One Battle After Another, which is likely going to win best picture.

Sinners is just a really well made genre movie with some deeper themes that made a ton of money at the box office. Its exactly the type of movie everyone should WANT to win Best Picture. It mad the most money of any of the 10 movies nominated. If you want the Oscars to stop giving Best Picture to obscure indies that are "about" things, then you should be rooting for Sinners to take the W here.

Nah. I was big on Sinners when it came out, and still like it as a very well shot and acted vampire movie. But don't tell me I should want it to win. I enjoyed F1, Train Dreams, and Marty Supreme just as much if not more. And they were all just as incredible in their production.

And I don't think people are saying the movie's politics are at play as much as politics surrounding race in Hollywood. If any movie wins because of it's political message, then yes, it'll be One Battle After Another.

That's exactly one of the reasons I wouldn't want it to win. The Oscars isn't for everybody and I don't want it to be. It shouldn't be about how much money a movie made. That shouldn't factor in at all. If you want that then watch the People's Choice awards. It should reward the quality of the movie. Oftentimes, yes, that means it's a more niche film that doesn't appeal to a wider audience. If it happened that the biggest movie of the year was also the best, then absolutely I have no issue in that scenario, but in this case Sinners is a quality movie, but it's not the best film of the year.

Even if it did start rewarding more popular films you'd just end up with something like the Grammy's which more often than not rewards gigantic sales numbers and ignores smaller quality and then you just have people complaining that the Grammy's are a joke.

I like: Ethan Hawke getting a nomination for "Blue Moon"

I do not like: "Warfare" getting snubbed for Best Sound

At the very least, I completely agree on the Warfare snub.

The sound in that movie was one of the most important and authentic aspects of the movie. This is one of those snubs, like Cinematography for The Batman, that I just don't get. I mean, I can accept those movies not necessarily winning the category, but not being nominated? That's absolutely insane.

Civil War from the year before has the same valid complaint. Two of the most incredible-sounding movies ever.

Based on the movies I watched in 2025, best supporting actor should go to Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, captain of the Justice Gang.

I'm just glad we actually have some competition in Best Picture and Best Actor this year. They aren't foregone conclusions. Granted, One Battle After Another and Chalamet will likely win each, respectively, but at least there's some suspense/legit upset potential.

Do you think Timmy is going to hold on? I would say MBJ if I had to guess as of today. Definitely seems like he has the momentum. Def think One Battle wins Best Picture, though its fun for it to not be a stone cold lock going into the night. If Sinners wins one of the Supporting awards early, it could be looking at a really big night.

Considering Oscar voting closed as late as March 5, after the tide started to turn against Timmy, I think he's definitely in jeopardy. Hard to say for sure either way, though.

Why is "the tide turning against Timmy"? Genuinely asking. Has he just been too present/available and people are getting tired of him?
