Yeah Nintendo is really fumbling the ball on what should've been a slam dunk with this system. If they struggle whatsoever it's 100% on their ridiculous pricing.

Mario 64 cost $120 in 2025 dollars when it released in 1996. Star Fox 64 was $150. Nintendo pricing has always been ridiculous. I'm not sure why people would react differently this time around.

I was thinking the same thing, I remember SNES games costing $70 back in the early 90s

So did Sega Genesis games.

Its not the 90s anymore. You can get AAA games on PC or multiple other OEM systems for cents on the dollar if you wait for 6 months to abyear from release.

With Nintendo you have to pay 60 bucks for a "remake" of Donkey Kong Country, a 20 year old game, or 50 bucks of you are lucky enough to cagch it on "sale" after 4 years.

That's like saying "I remember paying 29.99 for a Jurassic Park VHS in 1995! This isn't so bad!"

Who cares?

Lmao yeah this pricing for games isn't new. Phantasy Star IV for Sega Genesis cost $99 when it was released

Playstation 1 games in 1996/7 were 10 dollars cheaper than N64 games (or more, for the 80 dollars games). They would go on sale or have "greatest hits" versions available for 20 bucks. The point isn't the specific price point. There have always been cheaper gaming alternatives than Nintendo. Its never mattered before, I'm just not sure why it will this time either.

I was planning to buy the Switch 2 on release, but $450 plus $80 games is too rich for my blood. PS5s are selling for $50 cheaper, and is a much stronger console with a bigger/cheaper library of games to play. Maybe will pick up a Switch 2 when the next big Zelda comes out.

Nintendo Switch 2 From Software exclusive

Yeah this announcement felt like the Xbox One (not good). The "we have voice chat" and "we have a camera" highlights... Ummm... Yeah......

But forget everything else ... Nintendo is sitting on a massive gold mine of 40 years of games and they refuse to give us a path to play and own these games. Give us a "Nintendo Forever" store where we can always own/play those games and people will flock to Nintendo. But no... They can't. Here we are in 2025 and they are just now letting us play a handful of GameCube games. And not only that, there is no ownership or promise to play these games on future consoles.

Sorry Nintendo, but I'm already emulating your entire retro library on my Steam Deck. I'd happily pay to own my favorite games, but you have not offered a solution for that so I'll keep doing it this way.

Since N64 I have only bought Nintendo consoles when a tent pole Zelda game came out and this will be no different.

It's crazy to me how long it's been with no sequel to Mario Odyssey. That's the only other game that would prompt me to purchase out the gate.

I won a little money on the Super Bowl and was going to spend it on the Switch 2. For me, the feeling is now this:

1) It's understandable for the price of games to go up, but it's a bummer because that's probably a signal to the industry to go for it as well. I imagine AAA games will continue to cost more and more.

2) I wanted to see something that would tell me "try and get this system ASAP," but instead there's Mario Kart and a bunch of ports. Slightly enhanced versions of games I've already played doesn't get me excited.

3) Nothing must-have with a definitive date. I'm interested in Metroid but it's still a TBD release date. It reminds me of being a kid, getting excited for the Nintendo 64 (I even remember when it was only known as "Ultra 64") and getting hyped on some Zelda teases, then having to wait two more years to play Ocarina of Time.

So maybe in two years there will be games worth playing. Probably no discounts so it'll still be a pretty steep investment.

But meanwhile, I can get the Steam Deck and play way more games, right now, at massive discounts. So ultimately I came away from the Switch 2 presentation deciding to buy a competitor to Switch 2, and to kick this can down the road for several years. Unless Metroid is incredible or there's a new Smash Bros, I'll opt out until my kids get old enough to demand one.

It's been 25 years since a 3D DK game.

Duskbloods was a classic example of super excited to meh almost instantly.

"A new fromsoftware game, exclusive to Switch 2…"

Me: *eyebrows perk up immediately*

"…which is multiplayer"

Me: sigh.

I know multiplayer games are the bread and butter of the industry these days, and it makes financial sense for From, which has become so successful, to have one of their own.

But multiplayer arena games or co op drop in drop out games just don't do it for me. I recognize I'm in the minority and it's likely a generational thing.

I wonder if it's exclusive to the Switch 2 because of the 'C' button. PS & Xbox don't have C buttons.

In all seriousness... I'm really curious to see the mic reviews when playing the games docked in a living room. I can't imagine it being something that actually works well.

And even if they do an amazing job of noise cancellation (doubt) it's going to pick up every random conversation in the area. I'll be shocked if it's not terrible.

Where did you see that it's a multiplayer game? And what does that even mean? All Soulsborne games are "multiplayer" games, aside from Sekiro.

All I'm seeing are opinions from talking heads before we have heard anything from the game devs. I think there is a Miyazaki interview being released tomorrow, where we will actually learn more.

As I asked in my last post... where are we getting this is an 8-player PvPvE? I haven't read that anywhere from an official release, just people making assumptions. All we have is the trailer and we were told that Miyazaki is the game Director for this one. We are supposed to get more information tomorrow.

There are plenty of articles with the info, as well as a press release from FromSoft saying so.

"Developed for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2; 'THE DUSKBLOODS' is a PvPvE title with online multiplayer at its core, where up to 8 players vie for supremacy among themselves and against challenging foes.
Play as the "Bloodsworn"; a group that has transcended human strength thanks to their special blood, and throw yourself into a violent fray for "First Blood" as the twilight of humanity approaches.
Release is currently set for 2026 and we hope you look forward to it."

Been watching a lot of the Treehouse stuff, hands-on videos, etc.

Man, I have to say these games really do look fantastic in 4k/60 fps.

BOTW/TOTK in particular just look amazing. Even flipping through the menu looks buttery smooth. The grass blowing in the wind with nary a dropped frame.

I'm way more excited than I was yesterday.

I put out a preorder request to Nintendo. Won't mess with the retailers. If I get an invite, I'll pick up the bundle with Mario Kart world.

Looking forward to replaying Yakuza 0 on a mobile console too. Such a damn good game.

That's definitely the biggest draw for the console, especially if you didn't own a Switch 1.

My wife got me a PS5 for Christmas and I'm having a blast with the PS4 games that now look and play so much better than they did on the previous console. I skipped the PS4 so they are all new games to me and they are really something on PS5 hardware.

People may be dogging the Switch 2 announcement for a lack of new game announcements, but there's something to be said about great games that now look & run how they were always meant to, but couldn't because of previous hardware limitations.

Should I be expecting to pay a tariff price on this when it launches? 450 plus 24% Japan tariff? Is that too simplistic math?
HeavyMetalAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
From what I've read, it sounds like Nintendo is already pricing in the tariffs. That's supposedly part of why it is so pricey. There is a Japanese language only version being sold in Japan that is cheaper than the multilingual version. Speculation is they did that to allow local sales at a non-triff adjusted price.

Yep. We'll be lucky to pay $600.

The problem is the majority of consoles being shipped to US were manufactured in Vietnam rather than China, and it ended up being much worse, as Vietnam got hit harder than China.

Nobody anticipated that.

99% of the people who will cry about this already pay for NSO.

Even that headline is ridiculous rage bait. You don't have to pay a monthly fee to use the C-button. The C-button is linked to a specific online feature. If you don't pay for Nintendo Switch Online, you won't be able to use it or any other online features.
