exige:

Buy 1 six pack of St. A's Xmas.
Buy 1 six pack of St. A's IPA.

Pop the top off of one of each.

Pour both bottles into one large glass.

Enjoy.

Repeat if needed. Repeat twice at your own peril.

so on the way to and back from ft. worth, we stopped at two gas stations, little podunk gas stations, like we're talking 2 pumps.
One was in mexia, other one in groesbeck i think, and both had a section of beer of real small volume craft brews! They had breckenridge oatmeal stout, dechutes mirror pond pale ale and inversion ipa, ska blonde, franziskaner, harpoon leviathon imperial iPA.

i thought it was very strange for these little podunk towns to have beer like this. better yet, they were all 7.99. that's cheaper than specs.

62....I am hoping it's because they probably use the same distibutors and it's becoming a bit more mainstream.

You are right in it being a bit odd since I find most small town folk seem to like the bud/miller/coors only. Perhaps it's for all those Ags that drive 14 toward College Station

Had a couple of beers from Deschutes - the Black Butte Porter & the Mirror Pond Pale Ale... both are very, very good! Any others from this brewery that I should try?

I'd say in my top 3 of breweries!! I don't think you can get it now, but their Hop in the Dark (Dark IPA) is rapidly becoming one of my favorites. Go try their Jubelale out now, which is a very nice Christmas ale. Their Inversion IPA is good also.

The Abyss is hard to come by unless you are out in Oregon, but words can not describe Another one is the Black Butte XXI, but I don't think it is availible anymore. I was lucky enough to visit their public house in Portland when these two were there. I'm glad I only had to walk to my hotel room at that point.

Deschutes is nails. They only make excellent beers.

Top 5-10 in US (and hence WW for me) for sure.

Really like Deschutes. Mirror Pond is great, the Red Chair and Twilight seasonals were good as well. Need to get my hands on their IPA.

Had a Green Flash IPA today. Excellent, very yummy.

the first I ever had was the pyramid one. it was in CA, may not be available in TX.
other than that, i've only had the stone and my own homebrewed CPA.
In colorado I was in line at the liquor store and had one I hadn't had yet (I wanna say it was boulevard), but she rang it up and it was $18.99, I hesitantly said, eh, put that one back.

new? that's not new is it? I've seen it here before, and had some back in June in Dublin.

Way too heavy for me.

New to the US.

"As if you didn't already have reason to raise a pint, GUINNESS(r) Irish Stout is proud to announce its U.S. launch of GUINNESS(r) Foreign Extra Stout (FES) on October 1st. The fullest in flavor of the GUINNESS brand variants, GUINNESS FES is carbonated unlike the nitrogenated GUINNESS Draught with which most Americans are familiar. The specialty beer is 7.5% ABV and possesses strong, roasted aromas followed by a unique bittersweet taste. Foreign Extra Stout is already a favorite of many around the world, making up 45% of GUINNESS sales globally, and is sure to be a favorite of beer aficionados here in the U.S"

I picked up a six pack of Big Sky Brewery's "Moose Drool" Brown Ale. They've got some nice artwork on the bottle, but I thought the ale was just ok. Too carbonated for me.

Last night's beers. DFH Theombroma and Midas Touch and Sierra Nevada's Porter.

-Dogfish Head's Theobroma
quote:
This beer is based on chemical analysis of pottery fragments found in Honduras which revealed the earliest known alcoholic chocolate drink used by early civilizations to toast special occasions. The discovery of this beverage pushed back the earliest use of cocoa for human consumption more than 500 years to 1200 BC. As per the analysis, Dogfish Head’s Theobroma (translated into 'food of the gods') is brewed with Aztec cocoa powder and cocoa nibs (from our friends at Askinosie Chocolate), honey, chilies, and annatto (fragrant tree seeds). It's light in color - not what you expect with your typical chocolate beer. Not that you'd be surpised that we'd do something unexpected with this beer!

It really smells of honey. The honey doesn't come through in the taste though. You definitely get plenty of the chilies, cocoa and annatto (by the way, annatto is what give cheddar cheese it's yellow/orange color). It was okay, but the spices were a bit strong to enjoy the whole 25oz bottle it came in. I'd be much happier to drink 12 ounces.

-Dogfish Head's Midas Touch
quote:
This recipe is the actual oldest-known fermented beverage in the world! It is an ancient Turkish recipe using the original ingredients from the 2700 year old drinking vessels discovered in the tomb of King Midas. Somewhere between wine & mead; this smooth, sweet, yet dry ale will please the Chardonnay of beer drinker alike.
Original Release Date:
03/1999
Food Pairing Recommendations:
Pan-Asian dishes, risotto, curries, baked fish and chicken
Glassware Recommendation:
White Wine
Tasting Notes:
Honey, saffron, papaya, melon, biscuity, succulent

This beer rocks. I'll be buying more of this. The tasting notes: they list are spot on.

-Sierra Nevada's Porter
quote:
Dark and rich, Sierra Nevada Porter is a delicious, medium-bodied ale with a creamy head. The Porter’s smooth flavor (malty with hints of caramel) comes from a blend of deep-roasted barley malts.

I really like porters. I think that this one is a little weak. I was expecting/hoping for something with a little more "weight" I guess. I guess it was a nice first beer of the day on a balmy 72 degree December afternoon.

Had my first bottle of my first batch of home brew.
Turned out great. A red pale ale. It is the best homebrew I have ever tasted.

We just tapped the latest release from Sierra Nevada's 30th Anniversary series: "Oak Aged Barrel Reserve"

It is awesome. It's a blend of their Bigfoot Barleywine, Celebration Ale, and Pale Ale. Once they blend it all it is dry hopped. I got to drink the last of our Ken & Jack's Black Barleywine and then the first of this. Good night!

The wife has decided we are going to the ballet in downtown Houston today. I told her that was OK, but I will trade that for a stop at Specs downtown! I got a yes, so I get to find some new beers later!
