How dare you call that 'mess'!

For as long I bottled, I never did that pour all but the last 1/2" crap. tip it upside down, let it pour. and for wheats, leave that 1/2" of liquid, but swirl it up and make sure you really get all the yeast out.

I finally went to an event like this. Last night at BJ's willowbrook. Very cool, had a rep from new belgium talk through every beer with history and ingredients.. Scored the Fat tire recipe from him, and won a ranger IPA tshirt from his little trivia at the end. Also got to take home 2 new belgium glasses like in this pic, plus 2 ranger ipa pint glasses. And they had the BJ's oasis amber on tap for the time. tasty beer, like all of theirs.

Great beer, great food. They said they will do these once every quarter, so keep a look out.

also, NB is getting rid of 2 below and skinny dip seasonals, and replacing them with 'snow day' a black ipa, and 'summersault'.. forget what kind of beer.. a light one i'm sure.

so looking forward to snow day for sure. will probably be next winter.

thats a bummer, i really like -2'. but i think something called snow day should taste good too. although some goofy bartender at Canyon Creek kept thinking I was saying Tupelo - wont have to deal w/ that anymore - so thats good.

honestly last time i got 2 below, i thought it was fat tire. I was curious, thinking maybe they actually labeled it wrong, so I looked up ingredients online, they are pretty dang close..

I'd much rather have a black ipa from them.

I liked 2 below as well. I can't wait for their black IPA though!! Guess they are jumping on the bandwagon

Like 2Below as well. La Folie in 6-packs would be nice.

THe situation of BJ's beers and St. A's seems to come up a lot.. no one ever has really all the answers.. so here's the situation as told by Brock Wagner himself:

It has come up so many times, no one ever had a real confident answer.. so I emailed Brock himself to clear things up:

quote:
BJ's cannot ship beers to themselves in Texas and some other states. They could have a brewpub in every restaurant, but that is not logistically a great business model.

The beers they serve at their restaurants used to be all brewed by us. We also provide the beer for their restaurants in Louisiana, Oklahoma and Florida.

We don't provide all of the beers anymore in Texas. The Red, Blonde and Piranha come from Redhook/Widmer/A-B. We needed some of our production back.

We brew the beers. There is nobody from BJ's that appears here to brew them. Any account can purchase these beers, and occasionally somebody else does.

HB660 could possibly change it although BJ's may break through the production limit at some point. I would have to read the bill again. Don't hold your breath on that bill making it through though. It'd be great if it did, but highly unlikely.

Cheers!

Brock

Discovery had a show "how beer saved the world" this weekend. It was pretty interesting, showing all the ways beer has shaped the world into what it is.

For those of you near a Central Market (at least this applies to the one in Dallas) they are having a beer sale through Tuesday. I can't remember off the top of my head but I think it was 10% off from $5-$9; 20% off from $10-$25; 25% off higher than that. I picked up several 6-packs last night.

The stacks will get destroyed this weekend due to the big game, so the guy there said the best time would be early Saturday morning and then Tuesday, to meet up with their shipments.

Call your local one to see if it's the same. I assume it is. http://www.centralmarket.com/Stores.aspx/

I'd actually like to know...does anyone on this thread shop at the Dallas Central Market?

When I lived in Dallas I would go in there from time to time. Its just way over priced to shop on a regular basis.

Drank my first Sierra Nevada "Glissade" tonight. It is a helles (light) bock, so it looks more like a traditional lager than a standard bock. I do like the style more than pilsner, but less than other heavier lagers. Kinda reminds me of the new Shiner Dortmunder style.

I also drank my first Samuel Smith "Famous Taddy Porter" tonight. I thought it wasn't as good as Deshute's "Black Butte". A little more subtle & understated tasting. I wouldn't turn one down, but I'll reach elsewhere for a porter if I had a choice.

Finally, I tasted the newly-available Guinness Foreign Extra Stout & IMO it is the best of the Guinness offerings out there. Heavier & much more flavorful than the standard Guinness, this is a beer worthy of the hype the little brother gets.

(Something about cold temps gets me to drinking!)

leinenkugel 1884 bock. I could only make it to Wal Mart so it was the best I could do. Not too bad, not great.

What's the matter, you girls quit drinking beer 'cause it got a little cold?

my keezer is out of commission.. cracked the bulkhead, so I decided to take everything out, apply another coat of primer on the inside, and I bought a wire shelf/rack thingy to on the bottom to put the kegs on, which will allow for better ventilation.

should be up and running again by next weekend.

I usually like Sam Adams brews, but I ddin't care for the Latitude 48 IPA or the Noble Pils. They had a bad aftertaste.

I found this thread on page 7...what's wrong with everyone..how did this get to 7!?!?!

I got wind that this bad boy was actually being released for a limited time (batch out now should be the only one). I had it with the gf when we toured the New Belgium Brewery a few years ago, and I believe it was only on tap at the tour bar (and for employees). It was an awesome Dunkel Weiss and part of their employee-created Lips of Faith Series. It's a bit more bold than your standard Dunkel Weiss (as the series tends to be) and the best one I have had to date.

I got a few bottles last night and tried one. It will knock you around with the 9% alcohol, and honestly I thought it was not quite as good as the one on tap (never is)...but overall still a very good beer. I think it's getting solid "A's" on beeradvocate.

I'd suggest you go try and find one if you have the opportunity before they run out. I'm not sure it will be made again.

From the website:

quote:
"Deep amber brown with a dense off-white head, Dunkelweiss rediscovers hefeweissbiers through a Belgian brewer’s lens. Envisioned by our own Matty “Smooth” Gilliland, this beer opens with sweet clove, chocolate and banana notes that give way to a warm finish with a peppery tingle across the palate.

“I thought it would be fun to make a German wheat beer; we’ve explored the Belgian wheats pretty thoroughly,” said brewer, Matt Gilliland. “Since this is Lips of Faith, and part of what makes that program fun is to make beers that are really unique and different, making a big, strong, dark Weiss beer sounded pretty folly-licious. It’ll still showcase all of the flavors that a Hefeweiss beer would have, but add in the burly body and extra punch. Think of it as a Gran Cru dunkelweiss.”

You can find it in the DFW area at (no I'm not pimping NBB, I just sent an e-mail to find out and was told the following)

I tried the Sam Adams Belgian White tonight. Holy crap that stuff is strong. Checks in at 10.3% It wasn't bad though.

I think they sell it in 4 packs because 6 would be lethal.

I'm headed to the Franconia Brewery tomorrow morning in McKinney for the 11am tour (only one). I'd like to invite anyone in the DFW area to join as well. It's still probably the best/most informative beer tour I've been on, and you get an actual large glass of beer to drink while on the tour (and plenty after). I haven't been in about 6 months, but from what I remember it's typically no more than 30 people...so not the beer brawl you get at some of the other ones. Honestly, it's also one of the more 'quality' brewers that not many have heard about.

Let me know!!

tried this on tap at onion creek in the Heights in Htown. very interesting beer. almost wine like qualities. very sour and vinegary finish. i liked it, but i could not drink more than one at a time. not nearly as sour as the Duchesse de Bourgogne which i found almost undrinkable.

How was the AHA event at Saint Arnolds for those that went??

I had a Flying Dog - Gonzo Porter last night...it was...ok. The Red Ale (seasonal) I tried from Odell Brewing a few days before was absolutely outstanding! I still hate that we can't get it here in TX...minus a friend sending mine
