I've been wanting to try the Harpoon IPA for a while now. Very solid. While not the best IPA I've ever had, by far the most "drinkable". It's the only IPA I've had that tastes like an IPA but I could drink all night.

O and I recently traded a guy from work that lives in Chicago a 6 pack of Devil's Backbone for a 4 Pack of Goose Island Matilda. I haven't had it yet but he spoke very highly. Will report back...

Harpoon IPA is solid. Love their UFO also. I occasionally harvest Yeast from a bottle of UFO and brew a clone. Always yummy.

Shockem, I haven't had a goose island beer that I don't like, including the Matilda. They are proud of it though, one place I was at in Chicago had it for $13/glass...I opted for the cheap $8/bottle Honkers Ale.

Goodness. My buddy said it was $11.99 for the 4 pack. Not crazy but pretty steep for a 4 pack. I plan on having one tonight.

I had some of the Matilda last night... Really different. Very fruity upfront (like a smoothie, not just citrus) and got a note of cinnamon. Finished crisp but had a thick mouthfeel. It was good but I didn't love it especially for the price.

I did a bad thing.

I bought a sixer of Shiner Family Reunion. There was another six pack behind it. I swapped the Hefe for the Kosmos from the second six pack.

In hindsight, I should have swapped for the Old Time Alt...that stuff is yummy.

I'll need to try that one Isle. My favorite to date is the one from Pelican Pub & Brewery in Pacific City, OR. They make a ton of great beer, but you can't really get it unless you are in the area...or pay a lot for shipping (which I have done).

Recently took the Sprecher Brewery Tour in Mlwaukee WI. I really like their selection. MY favorite was the Abbey Triple.

I like the fact that they come in 16 oz bottles too.

Recent personal tastings:

Great: Alamo Golden Ale

Good: Shiner Blonde, Bud Lime

Not for me: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Real Ale Devils Backbone....both have too much bitter especially the Sierra Nevada.

I see above a few posts that someone likes the Devils Backbone. I dont know how you can take that bitter taste.

I'm not a huge hop head... but bitter is good.

FYI, Devil's Backbone ain't hardly bitter at all.

It was probably me talking about the Devil's Backbone. I am not a hop head but I go through periods where I want hoppier beers. With that said, I don't find Devil's Backbone overly bitter/hoppy at all.

okay so it's just me... FYI I did finish the bottle of Devils Backbone but just could not enjoy the Sierra Nevada which was way more bitter than the Devils Backbone.

Now the real test (for you guys)...try some Sierra Nevada and come back with your evaluation!

I enjoy SNPA. Their Pale Ale is considered to be one of America's best Pale Ales.

It is my girlfriend's go to beer.

If you find yourself in a beer bar that does tasting, ask if you can compare a SNPA with something hoppy. The SNPA will taste like bud light next to a real hoppy beer.

I hope I don't come across as a douchy beer snob. I'm not. I have no problem with folks drinking what they like. There are some beers that are considered to be the "best" of some categories that aren't for me.

To each his own, and SNPA is a very good beer IMO.

I am not a big fan of SNPA. It's not the hops. I enjoy hoppier beers like Ranger IPA, 512 IPA, Arrogant *******, Stone IPA, etc. But for me, there is some weird metallic after taste that all Sierra Nevada beers, especially the Pale Ale, finish with that is completely off-putting. I like the torpedo and some of their darker beers but the SNPA doesn't taste right to my palate.

With all that said, drink what you like. With beer, there is this fraternal mindset that everything must be the most extreme. Super hoppy or super high ABV or super rare. While I like a lot of that stuff, some of my favorite beers are not the most extreme or most unique beer you can find. My favorite thing about drinking beer is trying new ones. Everyone's palate is different. Drink what you like.

SNPA is an excellent pale ale. Celebration, Torpedo, Bigfoot, Harvest ale, Kellerweis,...their Beer Camp 12pk.

I used to be the same...then just changed one day. I'm really not sure how or why. I still prefer the porter or stout, but a good pale ale or ipa has it's place (thought I'm not going to drink a 6-pack of it).

I am a die hard hop head, and I totally agree with this. something about SNPA, I just don't like it. I love cascade hops though. And I love the torpedo.., hell I pretty much love every IPA or pale ale I've ever had, except SNPA, harpoon IPA, and as much as I like Elissa, it hands down gives me the worst headache I've ever experienced.

I'm enjoy really hoppy beers, but I really like SNPA. It's my go-to when I get stuck at an Applebee's, Ruby Tuesday, etc. where it's usually the only non ____light available on tap.

Living in OK makes decent beer a challenge as you can only purchase real beer in a liquor store and it cannot be cold at that. However, I do manage survive on my home brew and sample packs. Have been enjoying Lein's Summer Shandy and have a clone about ready. Currently ferementing a dark Cascadian

Anybody know where I can get a sixer of Real Ale's Devil's Backbone in Dallas? Central Market and Whole Foods haven't had any whenever I've been there this summer.
