Lot of speakers addressing her international trip.
Ramsey has already rebuked Lina.

It's definitely Lina vs everybody. She's already thrown shade at Ellis as he uses his campaign fund for travel.

Exactly. If you have supporters dumb enough to pay for your vacations via donations, more power to you. Your vacations should not be paid for with funds you stole from the people via tax increases.

The issue is the Office of Budget and Management doesn't have a policy for international travel and Lina is trying to force a change. Else, I'm guessing, her 4 staffers cannot go and be paid by the campaign because they are county workers, not campaign staff.

This is the underlying issue of what is happening.

Fair. But the issue is still the use of county funds. Period. There is nothing to gain by that twerp going to France. She isn't a diplomat for Harris to bring business here. That's what we have Abbott for. She needs to worry about county issues that she's been ignoring.

I'm not arguing with you. I'm explaining why she's trying to do this. The vote failed 2 weeks ago and it'll be interesting to see what happens today. She's pissing off her fellow dems and theres a fair chance they will not side with her.

I also agree local officials shouldn't have a need to travel internationally. Then again, that's why they're called junkets.

Lina states were in a -130M budget hole. -240M if the sherrifs raises are voted for.

She also also indicated they may have to vote a tax rate above the state limit of 3.5% effective raise. This would trigger a vote for voter approval to increase to their proposed rate.

Later P3 Ramsey has a line item to go over all spending that is not statutory. Item#218. $2.6B annual budget, $500M is optional out of that budget.

"Junkets" for politicians are usually paid for by somebody else and get disclosed on ethics forms and recorded as campaign contributions. Vacations paid for by tax money are called "wasteful abuse" or "corruption".

They discussed briefly how this budget hole started:
The 2020 non tax rate of 8% before the state 3.5% cap became effective. The Rs walked out and killed the quorum requirement of 4.

Next is the indigent defense fund which has ballooned from 11M to 50M+

Last is jail costs and some sort of Healthcare that comes out of the general fund. Not clear on this.

Remedies:
Brionies states we have to increase revenues...aka fees for everything.

Is this the first time she's mentioned being SA or has she brought it up in the past? Don't see how her staff going to France will help with that 'trauma'.

WTF.

We also pay for her to have private security because of an unnamed threat to her, which supposedly had to do with someone trying to grope her or something - at commissioners court.

She has a serious complex.

Her routine of storming out of publicly televised meetings when she doesn't get what she wants is incredibly unprofessional and ought to be disqualifying for her to continue on in the job. But Harris County voters will go back to the polls again and pull the straight D ticket next time without fail.

It'll be hilarious if she returns and demands to revote everything done during her absence. Like last time.

It's nuts the local press doesn't grill her ass until it sticks to the GD grate for this type of childish temper tantrum.

Ok so the press is what it is, but still this is fresh meat! Insane to not flay her.

Dolcefino will. But he doesn't have a platform. Michael Berry will take a crack at her, but a lot of people think he is nuts.

I just don't understand why the rest of the Harris County Democratic establishment puts up with her. They have a near lock on the local elections by now, so they can run anybody they want and expect to win. I guess she is dumb and gullible and probably easy to manipulate, but antics like this make her a laughing stock nationally, and by extension reflect badly on the rest of the dems around her that continue to put up with it. I am really pretty shocked that they haven't brought out the long knives and left her gutted on the roadside (politically speaking) long before now.
