But yes, this kind of stuff is silly. The only ONLY thing I could see is that they could waive field fees for the tournament, assuming they are on county fields, in exchange for a 'sponsorship'. But no way in HELL should we be sponsoring it, at least not for a cool 1/2 mill.
The tournament apparently consists of about 200 teams. That's roughly $2,500 per team. I cannot imagine any legitimate justification for that amount.
Again, the only thing I could see would be HC waiving the field fees for the rental of the fields for the tournament.
And while that is a loss of revenue, I can see the argument (not that I 100% agree) that the teams will stay locally and pay taxes on hotels.
But that's only if you're going to pull typical select-ball shenanigans of forcing teams to stay at X hotel for Y rooms per team or pay a fee if they don't. But I doubt that would happen.
$2,500 per team, with 9% HC hotel tax (9% for HC vs. 11% for CoH), means we need $28k in hotel room charges, per team. Or you know, $2,300 per room (assume 12 rooms per team).
