It should come as no shock that If you look at any Commissioners Court agenda from the past several years, you will find requests to spend money on items that are not core services (safety, infrastructure, flood control). This is on the agenda for our next meeting.

I mean, I can't for the life of me come up with any justifiable reason why a county judge would provide benefit to the city/county/taxpayers by traveling to Paris for any reason whatsoever. She is a local representative, concentrate efforts locally.
And her desire to donate to draw in the gay softball whatever? What possible justification could there be for that? I know opposition to it will be argued by people like her that it's anti-gay, but that doesn't have anything to do with my opposition, I just don't see a half-mil investment having enough return for such a small niche thing. You want to make a donation of that amount, double that amount, 100x that amount in order to draw in a Super Bowl or World Cup or some other big event that would be a huge economic driver for the entire community, then go for it.

The tournament apparently consists of about 200 teams. That's roughly $2,500 per team. I cannot imagine any legitimate justification for that amount.
I imagine they're going to try to say that the economic benefit will far surpass the $500k. And then they'll have some favored consulting firm do a "study" afterwards to say the tournament brought in $10MM in economic benefit.Ryan the Temp said:Quote:
