Harvard, the Ivy Schools, Rice, etc. are not what they used to be.

They're now more about creating little Commie activists rather than being the pinnacle of education.

Glad to see Channel 13 continuing to ask questions from this moron.

No answers given yet, but no surprise there.

That pisses me off. In one meeting Dora wants to raise taxes because of budget, but then wants to waste half a million on crap?

And we wonder why we have budget problems. If it's not necessary the answer should be NO - this should not even be on the agenda. The waste is unbelievable.

What's even more frustrating is it's not talked about in the general public. TA is the only place I've heard about this stuff

Forgive my ignorance, I don't live in Harris County, and even when I did didn't pay any attention to politics at the local level. But why the hell is any of the stuff being discussed throughout all of this even in the vernacular of a local county judge? Is the county judge just a 'name' for a position that encompasses much more than the name would imply?

I mean, I can't for the life of me come up with any justifiable reason why a county judge would provide benefit to the city/county/taxpayers by traveling to Paris for any reason whatsoever. She is a local representative, concentrate efforts locally.

And her desire to donate to draw in the gay softball whatever? What possible justification could there be for that? I know opposition to it will be argued by people like her that it's anti-gay, but that doesn't have anything to do with my opposition, I just don't see a half-mil investment having enough return for such a small niche thing. You want to make a donation of that amount, double that amount, 100x that amount in order to draw in a Super Bowl or World Cup or some other big event that would be a huge economic driver for the entire community, then go for it.

I'd bet dollars to donuts that she recently got a credit card bill for $46,800 and she ain't paying it out of her pocket so she called up a friend in the gay softball world to donate tax payer's money to them in exchange for 10% being returned to her.

All the softball gays coming to town will spend money buying gear at Dick's.

"County Judge" is a title for the position that acts as CEO for the county. The position is elected at large, County wide, as the position is not tied to one of the four precincts. The position is supposed to act as the tie breaking vote and is also responsible for County wide issues such as emergency events. Also to help craft budgets as well as manage state relations.

The 4 precincts each have a commissioner elected to manage infrastructure and parks.

Part of the reason (not to sound crazy), is that you no longer have local news or journalists. Most of the 'news' you are reading are national organizations covering hot topics. How much does the local budget meetings draw in? Side question: if your company had departmental budget meetings in which you could sit in on, would you?

So with no more local journalists (newspapers, TV reporters, bloggers, etc.) you are left with people who do care reporting on it. But those that do care, what are their outlets? FB? Twitter? Now you have to go find it, rather than it coming to you.

And once you find it, is it actually reporting on things or are they pushing an agenda? Not throwing any shade at AA99, just asking general questions when going for less 'sexy' topics of governace.

But yes, this kind of stuff is silly. The only ONLY thing I could see is that they could waive field fees for the tournament, assuming they are on county fields, in exchange for a 'sponsorship'. But no way in HELL should we be sponsoring it, at least not for a cool 1/2 mill.

Local TV people are narcissists who don't care about the news they report.

If I was a reporter who had to cover the inner city/low income crime truths and see the squalor, sexual assaults, kids with dead parents hanging out in feces-ridden apartments eating junk food or any other the other various crimes Dims, urbanites and/or other imported third world cultures are committing, I'd be in some serious substance and mental counseling. I'm sure many do have to do this to live with themselves.

Why would that sound crazy? All of the local news outlets cut back on local gov't reporting in the mid to late 2000's. Lots of reporters who specialized in local gov't reporting had to find other jobs or retire.
