if it was caused by a contractor doing work, please explain why these folks have anything to do with it?

Because these people are connected to the contractor and basically gave this unqualified contractor the contract for financial self serving purposes. It was all orchestrated

On my street last summer, 2 leaks existed for greater than 10 weeks which resulted in a stream of water flowing that you literally could canoe in. Do the math on that wasted water volume.

All the while getting notices on illegal sprinkler system usage. Now that is funny

The contractors hired by the city are supposed to locate these lines prior to any work. If they called 311 and were told there were not any buried lines it would be due to people like that that have contracts and never leave their house.

Municipalities and their contractors are not great at following the Texas 811 utilities locates process. It's more likely they didn't call, or they called long enough ago that any paint marks or pin flags that the locator put down were not still valid. Those need to be refreshed every two weeks during the project.

An Afghan refugee who survived a suicide bomber while serving alongside the U.S. military is the tragic victim of a deadly stabbing in southwest Houston.

Abdul Niazi was killed in his own office Wednesday evening, allegedly stabbed by Masiullah Sahil, a fellow refugee. Sahil is currently in the Harris County Jail and charged with murder.

By all accounts, Niazi had lived a remarkable life. Friends say he served as an interpreter for the U.S. military until a suicide bomber took both his legs. In 2014, the U.S. government relocated him as a refugee to Houston, where he thrived.

Man convicted of killing victim over parking spot cuts off ankle monitor ahead of sentencing

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A cold-blooded killer who gunned down another man over a parking dispute is wanted.
Christopher David Hernandez was on trial when prosecutors say he cut off his ankle monitor and didn't show up for closing arguments. A jury found him guilty of murder.
The chief prosecutor on the case told ABC13 she believes Hernandez cutting off his ankle monitor and disappearing played a big factor in why he was handed down a life sentence as a first-time offender.
Joshua Lazard was a father loved by many. On Thursday, his family told Eyewitness News they have some relief knowing his killer was sentenced to life.
"He got convicted. My son, he's not here, but I got justice for him," Lazard's father, Robert Dennis, said.
He says it's a moment this family has been waiting for nearly three years.
A jury found Hernandez guilty of killing Lazard in the parking lot of the Walmart on West Beltway near Bissonnet in August 2022 after being told by Lazard he didn't know how to drive.
"Within 10 seconds of meeting Joshua Lazard, (Hernandez) fires that gun five times, killing him. So, it's a huge safety concern he's out in our community," Harris County District Attorney's Office Chief Prosecutor Jennifer Meriwether said. "I'm hopeful that we'll be able to catch him soon and bring the family the closure they've been wanting. It was obviously disappointing not to see him go to jail (Wednesday). He's been on bond since 2022."
Meriweather says Hernandez cut off his ankle monitor on Wednesday morning. She said that after attempts to reach him by pre-trial services and his defense attorneys, the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force was called in to find him.
"By him cutting off the monitor, he showed everybody that he killed my son in cold blood," Dennis said. "Just turn yourself in. Be the man that you (were) when you killed my son. Now, be the man you're supposed to be and do the time that the people have given you."
The prosecutor said they're hopeful he will be caught soon in hopes of giving the family the closure they have been wanting and waiting for.

People accused of murder shouldn't be able to walk around free while on trial. The judiciary is a scourge almost on par with the actual criminals themselves. Hell, you could make the argument they are worse.

17 year olds kill 41 year old who they believed was in a love triangle relationship with the teenage girlfriend of one of the 17 year olds.

They fired 84 rounds into the guy's apartment.

Officials raided the Hazy Daze smoke shops following a six-month long investigation involving surveillance, undercover operations and interviews.

"Following the investigation, the decision was made to execute search warrants at the Hazy Daze smoke shop locations," the sheriff's office said.

The owner of Hazy Daze, Shlomi Wolraich, has been charged with money laundering and engaging in organized criminal activity. He is being held without bond.

Along with the Galveston County Sheriff's Office, members of the League City Police Department, Dickinson Police Department, Galveston County District Attorney's Office and Texas City Police Department also contributed to the investigation.
Wow. Seems like they really worked hard on this. Great team effort and use of taxpayer money to bring down a vape shop on Strand. Also wild that they hold the guy with no bond.

I just assume this is true for every vape shop. No way they have even the foot traffic volume to pay the employees. Much less the rent on the lease and make a profit.

There is a difference in accused and convicted.

The dude above was actually convicted, no way in hell should a convicted murder be let loose with only an ankle bracelet while they await sentencing.

Also - why TF does sentencing need to be a different trial days or weeks in the future? Jury comes back with verdict, apply what the law says on sentencing right there. Boom, done. Saves taxpayers money and you don't have activist judges doing sht like this that put the public in danger.

Also, those judges should be held liable for endangerment of public safety at a bare minimum, but really should be tarred and feathered.

If Dan Patrick has his way, this will happen to every single vape shop out there. Because GOD FORBID people partake in something Dan doesn't like. Even though he looks exactly like the type of dude that would gladly smoke a blunt at his house right after he went on his public bible crusade.

Vaping is stupid and those idiots clog up the lung transplant list when people who didn't voluntarily shred the lungs but have actual diseases thru no fault of their own actually need lung transplants.

So what?

Now do folks who tear up their livers with booze clogging up the transplant list.

I don't vape but all this hand-wringing over the largely harmless vices of other people is ridiculous.

He was given bond.

Wolraich initially was held without bond, but a Friday ruling from the 212th District Court set Wolraich's bond at $250,000 for each charge a total of $500,000 on the condition the Israeli-American dual citizen surrenders all passports within 24 hours of release, according to court documents.
