Well folks, your city is safer today by leaps and bounds. Ole Constable patrolling BW8 on the south side nailed an absolutely heinous criminal this morning and quite possibly saved the world.

Those criminals changing lanes without signaling are the worst of the worst, you can all sleep at night without locking your doors now that they got me!

Every time I try to use it the ******* in the lane over decides that is the signal to speed up and close the gap I want to move into.

I get that its a law, but its a stupid law and definitely not something a fuggin cop needs to pull somebody over for.

I try. But it would be difficult not to in this town, if we are going to get down to splitting hairs.

But you are missing the point here. The point is that your local constables are on duty and out there protecting the public from horrible law breakers like me, and you should feel good about your ability to live in such a society where terrible crimes are handled by the system! This is an attaboy for the cops amigo!

Ok, ok, hole up there Mr. High and Mighty. Step down from that Clydesdale and put yourself in the shoes of a person who has pursued full time employment in the criminal justice arts as an Assistant Deputy Constable.

Would you go wading into the ghetto or Galleria searching for nefarious bangers and druggies and Asian mafia types? I think not. A nice influx of lane changing, speeding and tail light violations and you're home to give the missus a pickle tickle and make burgers in the backyard of your 3 bedroom League City mansion.

I was just about to ask that. TIL that person even exists. No clue why…. And not just one apparently. The description of them as Houston's "senior french diplomat" implies the existence of one of more junior french diplomats.

A ton of countries have consulates in Houston, going back to the expansion of the Port of Houston in the 1920's or so. And now we are a much larger city.

Some countries just have Honorary Consulates here, who attend trade conferences and cultural events. Looks like the French consulate is actually from France with a full time staff, though.

CoH website says over 90 countries are represented in the consular corps here:
https://www.houstontx.gov/motia/consular-corps.html

I think they also assist w/ their own people working on visas and stuff. I coincidentally went into some generic office building that was packed w/ Central Americans one day, and found out the Consulate General for El Salvador was officed there.

In addition to busting schmellba, they also busted three teenagers that attempted to visit the Astrodome.

Houston is getting safer by the day!

If they arrest enough people that do it will it be considered a public safety risk and finally tear the ****ing thing down?!

Not without at least one more multi-million dollar study of options by a well connected consulting firm.

Fair enough. Now explain "senior French diplomat," which implies more than one.

Also, does Houston need a diplomat to Scotland, Ireland or Bavaria? I think I can do that …

Back in elementary school in the 70's, you could write a letter to the consulates and get all kinds of fun stuff back for free like maps, flags, coins. Great for school reports or just for fun.

I used to work down the hall from a diplomatic office for Cameroon. Seemed like a one man shop and he would leave the bathroom an absolute mess almost every day from using the sink to bathe head to toe before doing his prayers.

When I read that part I thought maybe it was something he ate. I've never had Cameroonian food.
