So…let's assume Carrick is finalized on a 2+1 contract. If you're the United decision maker, what target are you setting for him and what's the minimum?

I would say:

Target
EPL: qualify for CL via the league (probably top 5)
CL: get into knockouts
FA: try and win a game but don't really care
League Cup: try and win a game but don't really care

Minimum
EPL: qualify for EL through league or finish top 8 but qualify for EL by winning domestic cup.
CL: don't finish bottom 8
FA/League Cup: see above

While I don't want to see United get embarrassed by the likes of Grimsby I also don't think domestic cups matter next year unless it's to qualify for EL. He doesn't need a trophy in his first full year and the club has had recent success in domestic cups so it's not a priority. Priority is consolidating league position with the increased fixtures.

Well, I think getting to KOs in UCL is almost mandatory if we are including the first stage between the league/group phase and the round of 16 in knockouts. It's a very low bar with 24 teams advancing. Not doing at least that would actually be embarrassing. And I think if we don't keep our UCL spot in EPL (probably top 5), that would probably be a failure as well unless there are severe injury issues. So whatever the transfer window ends up being, we really need to be on track for those (admittedly, top 5 is less certain because you can't depend on as many quality teams falling on their face again next season).

Btw…. I kind of hate these big stripe Adidas kits for next year. I saw Arsenal's and it looks weird on theirs too. Plus it seems kind of cookie cutter since they are doing it on multiple kits.

The thing that made this one different to me from a simple self deflection is that he scored after the touch and without the touch it looked like he was going to lose possession.

(Edit: I think I'm mixing goals; Mbeumo scored on the one after this, didn't he? This was Cunha's, and Mbeumo, touched, shot but didn't score, and the rebound went to Cunha? Maybe it was the correct call since, ironically, Mbeumo didn't score.)

Hojlund is officially gone. Napoli is triggering a permanent purchase. 38MM pounds.

It's a decent amount of money but I wish he could have come back. He's figured it out and we need another striker.

I guess the question is can you get someone better than him for 38MM. If you can, it's a win. If not, it's a loss.

I don't know, has he figured it out? I saw he scored and assisted today on an app notification I have, but I saw something on Twitter last week complaining that he didn't have hardly any shots for like a bunch of recent games or something like that. (I didn't pay close attention because I thought Napoli had already made UCL, my bad there).

There are actually a lot of formerly promising but currently out of favor strikers on the market this summer. Ramos from PSG, Nunez from Saudi, Jackson from Chelsea/Bayern, Vlahovic from Juventus, to name a few. Plus Lewandowski out of contract at Barca (wages may be an issue here). Think Mateta from Palace is going into his last year. There are options for a backup at potentially ok prices this year.

Yeah Rasmus has 11 league goals in 32 games and 3 CL goals in 7. Not bad but stats that aren't leaving me regretting his move. And indeed I saw something recently that he's getting about the same shots per game at Napoli as he did at United. I.e not enough for a striker.

He's still young. I like him. I wish it would have worked out at United because he loved the club. But probably best for all that he's moved on.
