4 for 80 seems more than fair. If I was Chicago I'd just send him a new offer every day with a descending total value. (i.e. 4 for 79 tomorrow , then 4 for 78 etc.) See how much he wants to bet on himself to beat 20 million a year. Everyone still remembers when he was exposed in the playoffs and couldn't stay on the floor. He's a nice player, but 30 is star territory and he's not worth it.
Yeah, IDK.
Avg of 30M is less than Jrue, Jalen Suggs, Jarrett Allen, Jordan Poole, Jerami Grant, Immanuel Quickley.
Same as Herro, Jalen Johnson, Derrick White.
Slightly more than Hartenstein, DeJounte, Trey Murphy, Myles Turner.
He would be tied for 60th highest average contract. That kind of feels about right.
20M/year is about the same as Josh Hart, Caruso, Nembhard, Poeltl, Dillion Brooks, Patrick Williams, KCP and would put him at 83rd highest avg salary.
Last year he put up 38% from 3 (4/game) and after they traded LaVine, he averaged 21/11/9 on 50/47/76 shooting.
I think Giddey is closer to 30 than 20. But also, I am glad I am not having to decide if he is worth paying for my team. I think Chicago is just lowballing him because no other team has cap space to offer him a deal.
I think the real question is: What does Chicago think this team is capable of:
PG: Giddey / Tre Jones
SG: Coby White / Ayo
SF: Okoro / Huerter
PF: Matas / Essengue
C: ?? Jalen Smith ?? (assuming 35yo Vooch isnt the long term answer)
I think that's a pretty firm 7-10th team year in and year out for the East. Guarantee yourself the 11th-16th pick every year so you have no way to get better. Feels like the DeRozan Spurs.
