Simmons talked earlier today about how Harper is so mature and strong. Then here Harper is splitting the defenders, fighting through the hold, absorbing the contact and still finishing with his off hand.

It could go either way. I think the Hawks are betting on motivating Trae to prove it on the court and earn the max. So maybe this works out short term for them by getting him to give max effort.

Of course I can also see the outcome where he whines and pouts bringing the whole team down, but that would also tank his own value as a free agent to an extent, so he has to weigh his emotions against what he wants in his next contract.

No matter how much effort he gives, he will always be a massive liability on defense. But I have never questioned his effort overall or on offense. He's averaging 27/10 since his soph year and won the assist title last year with 11.6.

Now, I don't think a team can easily win with him, but he has been a big game player. It is an interesting case, because offensively, he is one of the best in the league, but like guys like Harden or Nash, the negatives make it tough if not impossible to win it all.

I think SOMEONE will give him the max. Utah could. Brooklyn would. Clippers if Kawhi's contract gets axed? Trae+Zubac would be a very good combo. Most free agents are set for 2027 and Trae can go in either summer because he has an option.

The problem for Atlanta is weighing the contracts of Kristaps, Dyson and Trae along with Jalen Johnson (a steal if healthy at 30M/year) and knowing Risacher gets his extension in 2 years. Okongwu+NAW make 31M/year combined, too.

Atlanta really needs everyone to take a bit of a discount to keep this team together, but I also don't think you can count on the health of this team, and even if healthy - I don't think they are better than a healthy Boston, Cleveland, Indiana, Orlando or Knicks.

Important, because I think this helps set the Sochan extension value. Sochan is a significantly less valuable player than Camara, who shot 38% from three last year and made All-Defense.

For those of you that live around SA how are you feeling about the new arena referendum? I am up in DFW now (grew up in NB) and the news does not seem to be positive for it passing.

Would hate to see the team move to Austin if it fails (which I think would be the endgame) but I understand that at the end of the day a business decision will have to be made.

Honestly if we lose the team because we don't vote for a new arena, San Antonio doesn't deserve the Spurs. We have Victor and attendance has been embarrassing. It also doesn't help that our Mayor hasn't bought into it.

The value of having the most popular player in the world playing in San Antonio can't be understated.

It was idiotic that the county made the Spurs build at Freeman last time around. Having the arena in the heart of the city is the only thing that makes sense. It will benefit the city way beyond the Spurs.

The only thing that makes sense otherwise would be at Retama to pull from 35N. That made more sense than Freeman, but less sense than Downtown.

If they don't say yes, those big ol women will need to find a new team to cheer for

Heck of a game between the Rockets and OKC.

Interesting notes:
Both teams shot below 30% from 3.
The Rockets aren't very deep. Only used 4 bench players in a double OT game.

Houston needs a real PG. Shepperd is cooked and the rest of the team plays better off the ball.

OKC only really used 8-9 guys as well. It felt like both teams wanted this one. It had a little playoff game magic. I'm sure that fades now that its past them, but it was fun on opening night

Sengun makes his teammates better. That's basically unteachable. It sucks that so many incredible players are going to miss the ASG this year.

It was funny to see the 23 year old Sengun stop the 37 year old Durant from making a game losing mistake by calling that timeout.
