Nuggets beat the Rockets last night, but Aaron Gordon went down with a hamstring issue and only played 3 minutes. They said they expect Gordon to miss some time and Nuggets have Sacramento, Memphis, then us on Friday. Our game is the first night of a back to back, so it wouldn't surprise me if we get a AG-less Nuggets.

Everyone's favorite and most knowledgeable talking head, KOC, was theorizing the Nets are trying to raise MPJs value in order to trade him. He's has a significantly higher usage rate, more more than double post ups, isos and pick and rolls than he did last year. and is averaging more shots, points, and assists than at any point in his career. Probably too expensive for the Spurs (would need to include something like Keldon and Olynyk and a pick or two). But I could see , as KOC does, that being the trade that gets Kuminga out of GSW

I think with how contracts have kind of reset for the most part (Giddey only getting 4y100M, etc) the palate for the last two years and 79M of MPJ's contract isn't going to be good. At best he is a 3rd option on a contending team.

I don't know if they are featuring him for a trade so much as the rest of their team is buns and he is clearly the best player.

As for the Spurs, I still think that MPJ works well for our team as a player and timeline (his contract is over when Wemby's extension kicks in. I'm kind of attached to Harrison Barnes and wouldn't want to trade him to a tanking team. Barnes+Olynyk for MPJ works financially.

Now if they wanted to do Devin+Olynyk for MPJ and Haywood Highsmith (recovering from torn meniscus and hasnt played yet) I would do that. Saves them $13M on their cap next year and 3.5M this year. That team would need to replace Olynyk, but I think we improve considerably. I'd part with some seconds, but no firsts or swaps.

The only other real negative contract they have is Terence Mann. But Mann gets paid $16M in 27-28 when Wemby's extension kicks in, and I would rather keep that season clear of bad contracts. I don't really want any part of Mann for that reason.

If there is a way to keep Barnes and get MPJ without giving up anything of long term value then I'm all in.

Anything centered around Vassell is a win for the Spurs, not because Devin isn't good, but because we want Castle, Fox and Harper on the court which squeezes Vassell's minutes considerably making him available on the right deal.

Harper played just fine for his first night back, and on the road. He was aggressive when he needed to be, made smart plays, and didn't turn it over. Had some really good looks at the rim just not drop against Clingan.

Even still, I'm surprised he hasn't spent any time in G-League where he can get 30 minutes a night. I suppose all the injuries have forced the Spurs to keep him on the team.

I think he's better off with the NBA coaches getting reps in practice against guys like Harrison Barnes more than going to GLeague to get 40mpg against competition that Harrison Ingram and Jamaree Booyeah dominate.
