I think Blubaugh can be key there if we resist the tenptation to make him a starter.

I think that
Hader
Abreu
Blubaugh
Sousa
King
Kimbrel
Okert
McCullers/LR

can be effective.

Why are Mariners fans still counting Cak's HRs? Do they not know those record numbers are for the regular season?

It's like in an alternate universe where Scherzer couldn't throw a fastball he'd be an elite carney with the multi colored eyes and the impoverished teeth.

Janek is hitting. 350 with 2 HR and 9 RBI. They've only played 6 games because of the flooding that washed out games for several days.

Any of us on this thread could manage a team to the WS with an unlimited budget to spend on players.

I laughed at MLB Tonight before yesterday's game when they asked if Roberts was one of the greatest baseball managers.

LOL, what?!

His job is certainly easier with all of that talent.

I will give Roberts some credit though for managing all of the egos. That is a tough part of the job and not everyone can do it.

But yeah, it's like being given a Porsche in a race against Nissan Maximas and asking if the guy who drives the Porsche is the best driver.

The manager gets the credit for team success. The Dodgers have been the most successful team for the last decade+ if you count the 2020 season.

GM really made it easy for him. His big knock was not knowing how to use a bullpen. What do they do? Go out and buy a bunch of starters that can go 7-8 innings in the playoffs. Roberts basically just has to sit in the dugout all game and do nothing.

I think managing egos actually gets easier the more superstars you have. Signing with the Dodgers is like accepting an invitation to play in the all-star game.

Dave Roberts has 2 jobs.

1. Don't overuse his bull pen.
2. Keep Shohei away from his bookie.

If he does those 2 things the talent on the team makes him the best manager in the history of baseball.

I think Roberts has come a long way from the guy in 2017. Sure, it's much easier to win a bunch when the GM just buys the best players, but that doesn't always work. They've dealt with a **** ton on injuries too. He's found a way to make it work without missing a beat.

If MLB can't work a way to enact some kind of hard salary cap or much larger luxury tax system without causing a long term players strike, they should just start giving low payroll teams free outs they can use at their discretion when playing high payroll luxury teams. Like 1 whammy per game for every $50M in payroll disparity.

And yes, I am joking, but it would be funny to see the Yankees and Dodgers bleat about it.

I think you'd be hard pressed to remember his name if he managed a team with less than a $200 million payroll. He'd likely be fired within the third year.

Roberts gets no respect from me. He has a heavy advantage over every team his plays with regards to the roster. Injuries don't matter - just go buy another player. They also have Manfred sucking them off.

The Dodgers should win the WS every other year. The fact that they haven't is on Roberts.

It must be really difficult trying to figure out which top-of-the-rotation starter you would like to pitch every game. Dude hasn't improved since 2017; he just has an All Star team for a roster now.

They won a World Series last year, and these are the names of the postseason "starters".

  • Ryan Brasier
  • Michael Kopech
  • Jack Flaherty
  • Walker Buehler
  • Ben Casparius
  • Yoshinobu Yamamoto

Question way far in advance…since it's stated we signed him to be a starter, does this push Lance to the bullpen before the season even begins?

Way too early to tell but I wouldn't be surprised if he's thrown his last pitch as an Astro.

For a little over a mil, I love this lottery ticket. He was one of the top pitching prospects when he debuted so the pedigree is there, just a bit buried.

Kudos Dana
