Just found out Joe Russo's Almost Dead is playing in Austin tomorrow night at ACL Live Moody. I've only seen them once and they blew me away but have watched many of live streams and they are easily the best Grateful Dead tribute band I've ever seen including Dead and Company.

Cannot wait. If you're in the area and are a remotely a GD fan then don't miss out. Joe Russo just played drums two weeks ago at the sold out Madison Square Garden shows with "The Brothers" (Allman tribute) with Jaimoe, Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, and Oteil Burbridge.

Not to mention other JRAD members Tom Hamilton (Brothers Past, Billy and the Kids, etc), Marco Benevento (Benevento/Russo duo), Aaron Magner (the Disco Biscuits), Scott Metzger, and Dave Dreiwitz (bassist for WEEN).

Awolnation tomorrow in Denver with the kiddos, then Devin Townsend on 5/21.

Thinking about hitting up Nekrogoblikon on 5/13! Just had a few of their songs randomly play on amazon and I'm loving it.

Will be at the Devin show on 5/21 w/ my best friend. Can't wait, especially with him announcing his indefinite tour hiatus. This will probably be around the 10th time I've seen him, always amazing.

It was really long but good. Devin is out there man.

Sammy Hagar at Dolby Live in Vegas was a great show last night! Kiddoc and I acknowledged this is almost certainly the last time we will see him perform which is depressing but age is undefeated.

He experienced a couple of missteps but at long last he included "Summer Nights" into the setlist. Satriani was amazing and Michael Anthony did a lot of the heavy lifting vocally as usual, just like he did throughout his time in VH.

At one point, some blond chick walked across the stage and attempted to sing along (the interwebs reports it was Ke$ha, who i wouldn't be able to pick out of a lineup).

Kiddoc and I did enjoy meeting and visiting with MooreTrucker and his wife (they were 4 seats down from us in a venue of over 6400).

Reading about Beyonce having trouble selling her new tour has me wondering if we have finally reached the breaking point of concert ticket prices. Would love to see a bit of an adjustment in the fans direction but that is tough to do now that artists make the majority of their money from shows as opposed to selling music.

I wonder how much of it is just that Beyonce is kind of old news at this point. Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga don't seem to be having the same issues.

Damn dude we should meet up beforehand for a beer.. I think Bruz is a few blocks away.

This will only be my third but first headline!.. He cancelled the O theater in March of 2020 I had a ticket for.

Saw him at red rocks with opeth and mission ballroom with dream theater. Don't know how he didn't get on my radar sooner than like 2017.. especially considering I absolutely knew who strapping young lad was back in the day when Byron joined fear factory, and I knew the VAI album in the 90s (well the video or two on MTV anyway)

Plus she just did a stadium tour not that long ago. However, I think a big part of the drop in prices for this go around is she is doing FIVE shows in LA. Even if they aren't sold out, if they are only 90% full thats a ton of tickets to sell. There is a much larger supply in that market than if she did 1 or 2 nights. She is only doing 2 nights in Houston and just out of curiosity I saw the cheapest seats are over $250. So I think this is the case of the media making a mountain out of a molehill. I wish it was the turning point for cheaper tickets but it seems not.

Yeah, i wish he could have included some Montrose but you have to make cuts somewhere. I would have cut his new song (which he opened with) and "Humans Being", which I've always hated. I don't really care for "Amsterdam" either. I like that he tried to include "Love Walks In" but he probably shouldn't have.

Yep, hilarious to watch Tobin just in awe of Devin when Dev is sitting there in his normal goofy outfit, just playing crazy stuff on the guitar. Fun episode for sure!

Humans Being and Amsterdam are not good. I could do without the entire Balance album.

Does anyone think that Ted Nugent at a bar in Katy would be any good? He's at the Dugout on May 2. I'm considering it.

Take earplugs. My guitar instructor went to see him in Beaumont last year and left after two songs. He said it was just too loud. Painful kind of loud. And this is from a guy who has played many gigs and been to many shows.

Fontaines D.C. was fantastic last night. Great set list. Some of the songs sounded much heavier live, particularly "Big Shot" which was a monster!!!

Originally I planned to hit the restroom and grab a beer in between opener (which I really enjoyed btw) and Fontaines but it was so packed I didn't want to fit through nor loose my spot.

I fear that might be my first and last time to see them at a smaller venue. It was packed and they only seem to be getting bigger.
I was glad to see them at a smaller venue but would actually prefer the lawn or a bigger venue next time. Very good live band, though, and I could tell why they're gaining popularity over here.

Some minor complaints for me were it didn't sound great where I was, and whatever A/C issue White Oak was having didn't seem to affect backstage area much because I felt cool air every time someone opened the door to the right of the stage. One person nearly collapsed onto me on the way out of the venue early on presumably due to the temperature in there, so I'm not nitpicking. Also the break they took before the encore was pretty long. We could've gotten another song with plenty of time left for a break.

It was fun getting to meet y'all, and I echo the things you said about the show. We were disappointed that there was no encore and that they didn't do Dreams (my wife's fave) or Mas Tequila, which should have been a no-brainer. But otherwise, a really fun show.

Just gonna add that the band may have needed some extra time before the encore due to said temperature downstairs. Anyway, they've got some of that early period Stone Roses/Oasis/Kasabian magic in em IMO with a good bit of The Cure mixed in their sound.

Debating driving to Austin to see Mogwai this weekend. Got Lucero coming up on 5/23 at Heights Theater as well.

"Dreams" is my fave Van Hagar song too but I thought he stopped singing that one about 10 years ago so I wasn't expecting it going in. I would have loved for that one to be the "surprise".

As he was winding down "Love walks In", i assumed the encore would be "Mas Tequila" and "Finish What Ya Started" but yeah...they just said goodnight and up went the house lights! That was unexpected.

You just told me everything I need to know. I'm out. I'm not a big Ted Nugent fan anyway and with my current tinnitus, I figure I have about 70 concerts left until I'm totally deaf. I'm not wasting one on Nugent. Also, I wear earplugs to kindergarten recitals and anything louder. Too little too late, but it helps.

About Sammy Hagar and encores: the last time I saw him, he got to the end of the show and explained to the enthusiastic crowd that he could leave the stage, leave the house light off, wait for us to get all excited, then come back and play two more songs. Instead of wasting that time, he said I'm just gonna play them right now. He was being real and honest. The crowd appreciated it. Sammy Hagar is awesome.

I wish it was the turning point for cheaper tickets but it seems not.

The media doesn't really understand the financials and motives. Many people are still stuck in this antiquated thought process that a sell out is the most desirable outcome. Selling 50,000 tickets at $100 average is great, but selling 30,000 tickets at $200 average is better.

And there's dozens of venues out there for each metro area -- and the number one thing you DONT want is those venues to sit empty. Doesn't matter if the act you are sticking in them isn't big enough for that venue (reference some of these ballpark concerts).

Typically it *would* lead to cheaper tickets, but a lot of people are being tricked into thinking that these new resale restriction laws and transfer restrictions (being pushed by Ticketmaster and the like) are going to usher that in, when instead they are setting up the consumer for just the opposite - having total price control. A few of the artists like Neil Young have already figured it out the "Ticketmaster face value marketplace" scam where their fans were unable to offload their tickets for even 50 cents on the dollar because "face" was far above actual market demand.

Still wished he would have done Mas Tequila. It's iconic. They even have a special margarita-style drink named after it.
