Officers with the Texas Department of Public Safety, which helped respond to the rioting, deployed tear gas to deter agitators from the federal building. Some protesters threw scooters and barricades into roadways as officers continued trying to contain the crowd.

By the end of the evening, APD made eight arrests, noting that a total of four officers were injured and hospitalized in the riots. Three of the four officers were struck by rocks and the fourth suffered a shoulder injury. They are expected to make full recoveries, APD said.

APD Police Chief Lisa Davis held a press conference Tuesday to discuss arrests made by her department and the response to the protest. The department released the following list of the individuals it arrested in a news release:

  • Conor Williams (misdemeanor criminal mischief); Charges dropped due to insufficient probable cause
  • Abigail Pore (misdemeanor criminal mischief)
  • Alexandra Haddix (misdemeanor failure to obey a lawful order)
  • Cody Bates (felony harassment of a public servant)
  • Edgar Tovar (misdemeanor reckless driving)
  • Shaneal Harun (misdemeanor charges of riot and resisting arrest)
  • Margarito Perez Montalvo (misdemeanor charges of interference with public duties and resisting arrest)
  • Hayden Perez (misdemeanor failure to obey and felony harassment of a public servant)

Asheville area is very artsy now, and many out of towners have "summer homes" there. That crowd is certainly older than what I would expect in more urban areas.
