I don't think I've ever liked a coach that has failed so hard as Amorim. And make no mistake, his premier league tenure so far has been a failure. Even if he somehow wins the Europa league against Tottenham, I don't know how he rids the squad of the loser PL mentality.
I think it has been too. But I also think this was always a possible scenario when they hired him in November. They really put him in a tough position. So tough of a position that you should only pull the trigger and bring him in if you are willing to give him 2+ seasons to show results.
The entire club is an absolute mess. He needs to show progress next season but he also needs to be supported this summer. United may be budgeting for EL football next season but realistically, 10th would be a marked improvement over this complete embarrassment of a team. Unless United are in a legitimate relegation battle, he deserves more time.

The EL match will make or break this team for next year. Without the income I don't see them being able to make any real player changes.

In all seriousness, United v. Spurs is surely the matchup of the two lowest ranked teams in their domestic leagues in any UEFA competition in history; difficult to imagine worse since we are both just ahead of the relegation slots.
If/when United lose to Villa next weekend, they will complete the season with 2 points from a possible 27. While Amorim was put in a difficult position, even just a couple of wins during that span would have been useful for next season and there's really no excuse for such a poor run. As a result, the external pressure at the start of next season will be much higher than one would want it to be for a guy going into his first full EPL season.
What's funny is that we were ahead in xG in 5 of the 8 matches. Some pretty significantly.

Hojlund bears responsibility but United have failed him this season. A 21 yr old forward whose career best goal total in a season is 10 should not be one of two options on your first team roster.

If Amorim thinks he's unsalvageable and incapable in his system, then they'll cut their losses I guess. But if they do, they'll likely get 30 cents on the dollar and then they'll again start next season with a roster that is way too thin at forward.

I don't think we have both Zirkzee and Hojlund as squad striker options next year, so I expect one of the two to move. We won't get as much as we need for either, so it could be a loan to buy type of thing. I know Zirkzee says he's a 9.5, but we will have a fair number of 10 options as well.
Edit: And I'm not saying this is his fault. Three years ago we needed to replace CR7 and Martial; Hojlund should have been the Martial replacement, but he became the Ronaldo replacement with no Martial replacement which was never going to be fair.

I'd be more inclined to move Zirkzee as he probably has a higher transfer/loan value than Hojlund and he likely will never fit into Amorim's system. Hojlund at least in theory could. He plays in a position that Amorim needs. Zirkzee plays in a position that Amorim doesn't even have in his formation.
A pretty compelling argument against Cunha on the day that multiple sources are claiming it's an all but done deal. This may have turned me from ambivalent to Cunha to "oh no, here we go again".

Well, I'm not endorsing the signing exactly, because if we aren't playing them I don't watch Wolves at all. But he has overperformed xG and has high G+A for the past two years. But… before that his career had been completely pedestrian.

Fair point about the Villa Rashford comparison. I think the high degree of overperformance is the most concerning aspect. More often than not, over the course of multiple seasons that will average out. Which would indicate that a prolonged period of underperformance is due.
On the bright side, if he does end up sucking, a dozen other United transfers in the last 5 years have steeled me for such a scenario.

Athletic with an interesting perspective. United have gone 20 games undefeated in an effort to first reach the EL and then eventually reach the EL Final. A ton of crazy games in the stretch.

Well I think wherever Rashford goes his numbers will look more like the Villa numbers. (I mean, Antony is putting up numbers in La Liga; if Rashford goes to Barcelona to take a rumor and is able to get time… it's a good bet that he will kill it; he's about 10x better than Antony, and Rashford is faster than most of La Liga; there's a big drop off after the top of the table there). I'm just saying she made a statistical argument for Rashford at United by juicing the numbers via cutting out…. Rashford's numbers at United.
