Amass you're like 5ft 3. You have no chance defending Soucek if you're not between him and the cross.

Mazraoui also looked bad. Gave AWB a lot of time and space and when he did press, he left a wide open space for AWB to pass in.

Amad also went to ground way too early. I'm going to convince myself that goal doesn't happen if Dorgu and Shaw are playing on the wings. Amad as a wingback is fine in certain situations but I think his home is at attacking mid. Wouldn't be surprised to see Bruno play deeper more often if squad is fully fit.

The one thing we didn't need, someone coming off with an injury.

Not to many minutes for anyone.

Nobody gets hurt.

Those were the only two things that mattered. Of course we can't even manage that.

Yoro down injured...walks off on his own power but sheesh we have terrible luck with injuries

Spurs are losing to Palace 2-0 as well. The Europa final really is going to be El Crapico isn't it?

So in 10 days time we have to beat an EPL team we haven't beaten in 3 years and we haven't beaten ANY EPL team in 3 months.

Suboptimal.

Could be worse. Could be an EPL team that wasn't Spurs.

Unless…we're the new Spurs. *mind blown*

But seriously. We have way too much in common. Both have been very good in Europe. Both have been absolutely pathetic in the league but yet both have managed some WTF league wins against some good teams.

I mean if we lose the final people should really start saying "That's so United" instead of "That's so Spursy".
Dre_00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Oh and both managed by guys who have never managed in the EPL before, have never managed in a top 5 league before, and who employ tactics that are at least a bit unorthodox for the EPL.

Literally can't buy a goal in EPL

It's truly amazing how different this team had played in the EPL versus EL.

I know the last 3 months of the EPL have been meaningless but it's not like we have played Liverpool, Arsenal and City over and over. These have all been really bad teams and we are just uncompetitive in most of these matches.

Glass half full: Spurs are losing to a bottom half team that plays 3-4-3 right now 2-0!

Glass half empty: We are losing to bottom half team that plays 4-3-3 right now 2-0.

Quote:

"I don't want to talk about players," Amorim told his post-match press conference following Sunday's two-goal defeat at home to West Ham United, that saw his side slip to 16th in the Premier League. "I'm talking about myself and the culture in the club.

"The culture in the team. I have that feeling: we need to change that. We need to be really strong in the summer and to be brave. Because we will not have a next season like this.

"If we start like this, if the feeling is still here, we should give space to different persons."
I love this guy's attitude. I really hope it works with him for a number of reasons and near the top of the list is that he feels like an incredibly genuine and honest guy. Would love to see that rewarded.

Cunha to United rumors have cooled off and suggestions United aren't as keen. I read an article recently which made the case that Cunha was overachieving his stats and that the odds were he'd regress to the mean sooner or later. I wouldn't hate the deal but I'm not sure I'd love it either. Was mentioned previously by many here that Cunha would create quite the logjam at attacking mid even if you take into account Mount's injury proneness and Mainoo and Amad's versatility to play other positions. Seems like a lot to spend when forward, central mid, and even wingback are much thinner areas in terms of squad talent.

Honestly we really need to look at GK as well. Neither Onana or Bayindir are good enough

I agree but I'd be surprised if that was addressed this window.

Maybe a young keeper gets promoted to the first team when Heaton leaves on a free. Or maybe they find a cheapish, young option in the transfer market that they think has upside if they don't think any of the young players have the potential to be first team in the coming years. But unless someone comes in with an amazing offer for Onana, I think we're unlikely to spend much capital there this offseason.

Source? Everything I've seen has indicated that Arsenal and Newcastle have sniffed around, but he's still likely to move to United, and he is likely to move early in the window.

On Onana, I want to say Simon Stone has name dropped Lammens of Royal Antwerp as a potential Bayindir replacement who could challenge Onana. Still pretty early, but unless Onana drops a clanger in the final, I think he probably starts the year as first choice keeper.

Edit: context is "One possible name I've heard is…" type of thing; I don't think we are anywhere near any GK deals

No news but good "feelings" and talks still "advanced" from Fabrizio

Nothing specific. A transfer/analytics blog I frequent mentioned that that the talk had died down but this was pre-Romano tweet.

To save money, United have not given complimentary tickets to the EL Final to any of the coaches, trainers, or support staff. They have the option to purchase a max of 2.

Amorim though has personally paid for 30 backroom staff remembers and their family to come to the final. LOVE THIS MAN.

But the Glazers will charge the costs of $250k back to the club, right? I mean they did last time.

If we don't win this game, I shudder to think of the financial restrictions on the club. Spurs are going to be in the same boat.

They talk about the Championship promotion final as being the most expensive single game in the world. But the EL final here may be more important. Two clubs and it's CL or bust for both. And both desperately need the money.

Athletic had a lengthy write up on 20 years of Glazers ownership (officially 20 years as of this week). It's one of the more depressing sports related things you'll read.

Dalot, De Ligt, and Yoro are all questionable at best for the EL final. First two not surprising. Last one is disappointing. If Yoro can't play then it's very likely Lindelof will start the biggest game of the season...and then go look for a new club when it's over.

Tottenham will be without Kulusevski who joins Maddison and Bergvall on the injured list.

Regarding flights, one thing in the articles was that he bumped commercial personnel's flights down to economy; it did make me wonder if the Glazers still get private jets expensed or not.

Well...some rumors, who knows how valid, that Atletico Madrid are asking United about Antony. So maybe a big Spanish club is interested in him after his exploits at Betis. United are said to be asking for 40-50m EUR...which is what they need to breakeven on PSR. I'd be shocked if they managed to push this through. I mean this probably doesn't happen but if it does...

Ask for 100MM. Settle for 50MM.

It's a negotiation. Let AM negotiate.
Dre_00

Atletico paid 40m EUR for Conor Gallagher w/o the benefit of seeing him play in La Liga. Surely Antony's stint at Betis is worth another 20m. He's a sure thing.

Playing Chelsea tonight but I'm more interested in probably non-sensical transfer gibberish which is a pretty good indicator of where we are this season.

Italian media suggesting that Inter will approach United for Zirkzee. Initial loan with option to buy that becomes mandatory under certain conditions. Since his transfer fee was relatively reasonable, my guess is that if Inter paid most of his contract while on loan, the fee to make permanent wouldn't have to be very high to make the financials work from a PSR perspective.

A couple of thoughts. He's a better player than people give him credit for. He is really good at what he's good at. But he's not really good at what United needs most and really has no natural position in Amorim's system. Think he plays best with a 2nd striker (which Inter does) or really good scoring wingers and no attacking mid to occupy the space he likes to play in. I actually don't think he was a great fit in EtH's system either. Basically, I think we got him because he was "good value" and ignored the tactical fit component.

He had some bad performances especially early in the year but he improved markedly as the season progressed. I think people were overly harsh on him because we desperately needed a goal scoring forward and that was never going to be his skillset. But that doesn't mean he's bad. Anyway, hope it happens because I don't think he has a future in Amorim's system and he can be an important player for the right big club.

I rate Zirkzee a hell of a lot higher than Hojlund, but he really doesn't fit any defined role in our system.

Lineup tonight is what I would have expected to start against Spurs now that Yoro is unlikely to be fit.
