Astros catcher coach was dismissed. Maldy would be a great fit for that position to work his way to bench coach.

I loved what Maldy brought to the team in terms of catching, pitcher management, and clubhouse presence. I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Per LockedOnAstros - Houston signs RP Nate Pearson (age 29) to a 1 year deal.

While he has only started 6 games out of 123 for his career, it is believed the Astros are going to try and make him a starter.

156.2 total innings, 5.17 ERA, 160 K, 74 BB, .255 avg, 1.45 WHiP

Not very common for college coach to become mlb manager. Looks like Pat Murphy was the last, but he was also in MiLB for awhile.

Maybe not, but the players are getting younger and younger, or rather more from this mold of high energy bordering on arrogance. More bat flips and all that.

Vitello's schtick is he's a loudmouth meathead who has very good asst coaches. I just don't see that playing well with pros over 162 games. He is Boone but without an off switch. Maybe I'll be wrong.

They only have a salary of $700MM. They still have $300MM left to go.

Get tucker to agree to $450 MM/10 years with $420MM deferred and is a$3MM/yr. Then they have plenty of room to sign three other FA plus the best 2 Japanese players.

I see nothing to stop that.
