On September 16, 2013, the PGA of America announced that the 2025* Ryder Cup would be held at Bethpage Black. The wait was long but I'm glad it's here. This has the potential to be one of the wildest Ryder Cups of our lifetimes.

Mixing golf's most intense and fan-interactive event with a NY crowd will be a spectacle. I'm sure at some points it will go too far and the tears cried by the Euros when it does will be abundant. But for the most part, I think it will be alot of fun... for the players and viewers.

Both teams really want this one. The Euros want revenge for getting embarrassed at Whistling Straits. The Americans want revenge for getting embarrassed at Marco Simone. Both captains really want this one. Keegan with his super intense/motivating style and Luke with his buttoned up CEO style. Both team leaders (Rory and Scottie) really want this one. All the elements are there.

Now we just need the golf itself to live up to the billing. There hasn't been a competitive cup that hung in the balance on Sunday since Medinah in 2012 (and that was a crazy one-off). As much as I'd like to see the Americans lay the smackdown early and celebrate coming home, it would be good for the event to go into Sunday without either team holding a big lead.

Given the personnel of each squad, I think a tight Sunday is entirely possible. The Euros are strong at the top. The USA has strength up and down the lineup. I can make a case for either squad. But when I factor in home crowd and setup, I give the home team the edge.

Colin Montgomery and John Daly get into a fight, but both stop fighting to catch their breath after 2 swings.

Tommy Fleetwood gets his hair caught in the subway door and has to cut it, causing him to go 0-3.

Greg Norman has something obnoxious to say about it all on twitter and Cam Smith backs him up.

NY crowd is going to take it too far and there will be a statement released by the tournament officials on Saturday night. Sunday will be relatively tame.

Some Friday morning guesses:

  • Starting to feel like Bryson and Cam Young will go off first Friday morning in foursomes. If Bryson is playing foursomes, it's likely with Young due to the golf ball issue.
  • I originally thought the first match would be Scottie's spot but I like giving Bryson's energy and hometown Cam the honors. Plus, I think Rory and Bryson really want a piece of eachother. Like I've said on the other thread, I think Rory will be hitting the first tee shot for Europe. He's never done it (Sergio in 21, Rose in 16, McDowell in 12) and he's the undisputed alpha of Team Europe right now.
  • I think Keegan is going to try and predict where Hovland/Ludvig are playing and put Scottie opposite them (likely with Spaun). I bet Scottie wants their asses after 9&7.
  • Wouldn't be surprised to see English/Henley and Xander/Cantlay round out USA foursomes on Friday morning.
Some Saturday afternoon guesses:

  • JT/Griffin lead us out, followed by Morikawa/Burns
  • From there, I'd like to see Scottie/Henley and have Bryson run it back with Cam or try him with whoever is playing better between Cantlay and Xander.

I was under the impression that rule changed for this Ryder Cup. Golf Channel mentioned they can switch (doesn't make sense to me but that's what they said)

I think you can switch golf balls between holes but not in the same hole. So if Bryson hits a tee shot on a par 4, his partner has to play that same ball for the approach shot.

Only change from yesterday is Morikawa and Spaun swapping groups.

Bryson/Young and JT/Griffin still seem like very good bets to pair up.

Deluxe- curious why you think Bryson will play alt shot. I think you just put him in 4 ball and let him rip. most of the pods I've listened to also think he'll be paired with Griffin, not Young.

Sounds like Euro press is a little jealous. Not surprised. Europe has a history of telling its people what they want. In America, we prefer to be paid for our hard work.

In a Europe hosted Ryder Cup, I'd want no part of Bryson in foursomes. But at home with the rough trimmed, I think he's fine. I'm currently of the mind that we should play him Friday morning and we'll take it from there whether he plays Saturday morning. He should obviously play both afternoons regardless.

He could probably play four ball with anyone (including Griffin, like you said). Pairing him Young in foursomes probably makes the most sense due to their golf ball. But I'm not taking into account any analytics around how their games could synergize around Bethpage.

Watching a replay of live from on golf channel and they said JT and Bryson are playing the same ball too. That'd be a helluva pairing to send out 1st Friday morning. Also a video going around of Bryson trying to drive the green on 1. He got to 200mph ball speed a couple of times.

I saw that too. JT and Bryson first off with Bryson knocking it on the green and JT dropping an eagle putt would be an electric factory.
