If you win 2.5 points in the afternoon, it's not that bad overall. Even splitting the afternoon and things are reasonable.

Yep. At a certain point, the guys on the course need to play good golf. Hit quality shots and sink clutch putts. Pairings are overrated. Just play well.

The europeans are playing some damn good golf. To be that far under par in alternate shot at Bethpage Black is really impressive.
Foursomes just seem so much easier with the Euro team make up.
Our guys are great, but all great for different reasons. They have weaknesses, but then strengths that can overcome them over a 72 hole event The Euros are just all well rounded incredibly similar players. Putting together our pairings is like playing Tetris with all the different pieces, and they're playing with just all squares.
I think we have 3 guys that fit that well rounded pair with whoever kind of players (Scottie, Xander, Cantlay). They have Rory, Rahm, Fleetwood, Hatton, Ludvig, Rose, Hovland. You could literally just draw names out of a hat with those 7 and come up with 3 pairings you'd feel good about. All long, all good iron players, some short game weakness in a couple of those guys that probably keeps them from winning more regular events. But when you hit it like they do it's kind of hidden in match play, especially foursomes.
