Now that a lot of people have moved on, I wonder if we'll finally get some idea of wtf actually happened this last season.

I still don't understand how things were as bad as they were.

Coaching, plain and simple

Oh come on.

We lost Gavin like first series
Sorrell was out most of the year including SEC tournament games
sDAO was out
Stewart was out.
Gavin Kash missed time

That's a BIg factor

I think the coaching issue stems from the mismanagement of the roster, repeated mental lapses, the tendency of the players to appear to quit, and the failure to maximize the (alleged) talent from the (alleged) stud transfers. No doubt injuries were a huge factor - no getting around that. But watching the team do things like make inexplicable baserunning mistakes, seeing them repeatedly have mental lapses in the field (like throwing to the wrong base, ignoring the cutoff man, taking terrible angles in the outfield, etc.), having the coaching staff call for bunts in the SECT when we hadn't been a bunting team all year, and the failure to get the players to QUIT SWINGING FOR THE FENCES ON EVERY SINGLE AT BAT points the finger squarely at coaching malpractice.

Do you not realize we started bunting because our best hitter got hurt and nobody was running the ball out of the yard? We had to manufacture runs. It's one of the only noticeable coaching decisions we did all year.

Injuries excuse not living up to our preseason #1 ranking and being a national seed. Injuries do not excuse missing the tournament. Anyone claiming otherwise is engaging in a revisionist history of the embarrassing season I watched.
Not to mention your noting that Kash missed time is totally irrelevant; it'd be more accurate to say that Earley missed on Kash big time.

I realize that. But I also realize you can't expect players to be able to install and execute a new strategy that hadn't been used all year. When nearly 60 games are under your belt and you've not been a bunting team all season, the odds of flipping a switch and becoming a successful bunting team in mid-May is ridiculously unlitely.

What makes it worse for me. I don't think the bunting calls started taking place bc our offense stunk. I think it was specific to being under pressure in big games and just over coaching trying to win the game in that manner with no thought whatsoever that his team was not prepared for it. Not understanding where one's team that late in the season was bad but by that point nothing surprised me anymore.

All that being said, the base running overturned call was total BS.

I think it was simple strategy shift where the staff felt it was the best chance of us winning games, given our pitching was over-performing but SLG wasn't was expected (injuries played a part here but were not at all the full story).

Team practice bunting all the time but we have had a lineup for past few years that doesnt need to manufacture runs for the most part but certain times you have to do it we just didnt execute, and we likely would have a lot more had that been the team's montra all year but it wasnt but that doesnt mean you dont practice bunting and sacrificing

I like how Sdao made the injury list on why we didn't win last year.

Why not add Ashenbeck as well if it makes you feel better. He was waiting on a NCAA ruling.

No. 50 in RPI with 5 pitchers drafted in top 10 rounds. All because we were forced to bunt. Got it!

If bunting is not part of your identity you do not practice it enough, if it all.

Not yet, but Brauny has said that it is someone coming from a lower level and won't make a lot of headlines

Why the meme with bag man? Is that the Aggie way? Pay'em all!!!! Well everyone but Luke Jackson.

I mean we did pay Earley $1M a year when should of been able to get him for half that cost. Only 3 coaches in the CWS are making more than Earley and all had much more extensive track records.

The first time it was an accident -- he said he didn't mean to attach the gif at all and must've just fat fingered it. Since then, he's just kept doing it.

That gif has accompanied every transfer commit post since he accidentally attached it to a post a month or so ago.

I also think Luke Jackson is likely to sign at this point with the Rays, so it's a moot point.

We only had 2 actual catchers on roster. Our next best option after those 2 would have been like Grahovac or someone else that hasn't seen time there in a while. We do need more pitchers though. Surprised we are even still bringing guys in atp honestly.

Might as well fill up the roster. Let the guys compete and the cream will rise to the top.

I think it is Batista, an infielder from West Texas A&M, since Brauny mentioned on premium this bomb voyage should not be hard to figure out; he is the only person known to have visited in the past week.
