I'm thinking the defense will call no one. Jury will come back Monday for closing arguments.
The medical examiner will be the next witness in the Karmelo Anthony trial. The judge warns people this will be graphic and to leave the room if they don't want to hear it. Austin Melcalf's dad and mom left the courtroom. @CBSNewsTexas

Oh they'll have to try to call some character witnesses for Anthony, at least.
Karmelo Anthony trial: we have been informed the medical examiner is next to testify. People who don’t want to listen to sensitive information have been asked to leave. Both of Austin’s parents and most of his family have left the room.

Thanks... Been traveling for work so getting to follow is in fits and spurts...
I recall catching posts towards the end of selection. I didn't care to dig back but just sitting here thinking when more jury commentary keeps coming up, "wasn't a lot of this discussed during selection coverage?"

I've served on multiple Collin juries, as recently as January when I was a foreman for one. They'll convict. Just not sure they max out the "kid" as much as I hope.

I think the defense lost on the jury selection. If the one person didnt say "I couldn't put a brother behind bars" and got on the jury it would be different. Props for honesty I guess

If they don't already exist, I could see community service groups teaching citizens how to avoid disqualifying themselves. The "get the vote out" organizers will transition to "protect our own" jury duty advocates.

That wasn't honesty. That was "I don't want to serve and I know a quick way to get struck."

Agree. I think the last 3 were teachers prioritizing their summer off vs protecting some ****bird.
The state has now rested its case against Karmelo Anthony. We had heard rumors that Hunter Metcalf might be testifying today, but the state is now done calling witnesses. Then the judge asked Karmelo's defense team what was next.

Defense asked for the court to move to a direct verdict. That's a motion is asking a judge to rule in their favor before a case is submitted to the jury, arguing that the opposing side has legally failed to present enough evidence to prove their claim
Judge said no.
Then the judge asked the defense what's next. They said they didn't know and we are now taking a break.

Those three were peremptory strikes. They did not say anything to get struck for cause like the person that had "trouble putting a brother in jail."

Seriously?! A direct verdict after those testimonies? WTF is the defense smoking?!

Geologist, not legal eagle here...
Does that mean the Defense tried, with a straight face, to say the prosecution failed to show evidence that aligned with the charges brought???

Defense doesn't know what they want to do next? Really?
